By the time I was taken back to the motel, the worst of the attack was over. Or at least, the immediate threat was over. I knew, and so did everyone else, that this wasn’t completely over. We all knew what was at stake. Jeremy walked behind me with another warrior named Dane. Zack had sent them both, which meant he expected me to either run or do something stupid. He wasn’t wrong to think that. I had been thinking about doing something stupid since we left the northern tree line. The hunters had pulled back, but I knew Kade hadn’t given up. The Council wouldn’t stop because one attack failed. They would look at Skaydal differently now. They would study what went wrong. They would learn that Dolly could strengthen the wards instead of only breaking them.
That would scare them more
