Chapter Eight : The Fallout

215 Words
Six days later… In a quiet ward of a run-down hospital, Nurse Ajoke watched the news: > “The attempted kidnap of the Governor’s daughter has raised questions about internal security—” She shook her head. > “Na wa for this country.” A nurse stepped in. “Ma, one patient—he’s been here six days. No visitors.” Ajoke narrowed her eyes. “The one in the care unit?” “Yes, ma.” Ajoke sighed. “I’ll check his file.” But before she could move— BANG! BANG! A knock. “Come in!” Dr. Bami barged in, scowling. > “That madman in the care unit—discharge him before morning, or it’s your bill!” He stormed out. Ajoke rubbed her temples. “Who be this madman self?” She made her way to the care unit. Taye sat by the window, eyes hollow, back straight, completely still. She tapped him gently. “Good day, sir… I’m Nurse Ajoke. You’re being discharged.” He turned slowly, as if dragged from another world. > “Who brought me here?” His voice was deep. Distant. > “Some guys… they left. Your bills are covered.” Taye stood without a word. Walked out. Ajoke stood frozen, heart racing.
