CADEN I tore through my room like a man possessed. Drawers were yanked open and emptied onto the floor. Books were pulled from shelves, their pages shaken out before being tossed aside. My closet had been ransacked so thoroughly it looked like a hurricane had passed through, but the photograph was nowhere to be found. My mother's face. Her smile.
