Aerabella and Loril sat next to eachother. this was the first time they had been able to stop and take stock since they left. they had resupplied before breaking into the castle to get Loril, but there was only so much they could get because they were in a hurry and would need to run. the next town was about 2 days away yet and they were running quite low on rations. Aerabella and Loril were not told about the low supply and were provided with food and water because both of them were malnourished from their ordeals. while the others reorganized and repacked their bags Loril and Aerabelle began to talk.
Aerabelle couldn't help but notice the fresh scars on Lorils shoulder and arms. She brushed one on her arm gently. "He hurt you?" she said
"Yes but I'll be fine" Loril replied.
"I'm sorry" Aerabella said.
"It's fine, really." Loril said trying to ignore the subject.
"It's not though. He'll pay for hurting so many people." Aerabella was angry.
"Hey, hey, calm down. you were there too weren't you? I heard a commotion about someone escaping that was you wasn't it?" Loril connected the dots.
"Please don't say anything." Aerabella begged.
"They're a smart bunch, they're going to figure it out sooner or later" Loril sighed
"I need to get back to Haven" Aerabella said.
"I still think you need to tell them the truth. It's going to be a long journey and we need to know who we are traveling with."
What Loril didn't say was she had overheard that the prisoner who escaped had been there for almost 30 years. she didn't know if something weird was going on because Bell looked like she was no more than 20, or if Bell was lying to her.
"You're not much of a talker are you?" Loril asked as they sat there in silence.
After being quiet for 30 years Aerabella didn't really have much to talk about. she shook her head and shrugged her shoulders.
"Are you ready to go girls?" Lionels asked.
Both girls nodded and stood, and both immediately lost their balance.
"Hey now, take it easy. you both need to take it slow. you're bodies need time to heal." Kyne said rushing over to them.
Kyne lifted Loril onto Lionel's back and offered his own to Aerabella. As they traveled the wind picked up. there was a storm on the way in. From the looks of it, it was a bad one too.
"We should make camp" Freyah said.
"I agree" Fix replied."Fix was nervous to get the girls caught in the rain. if they got sick, they wouldn't be able to travel.
"If we can make it a few more miles there is a safe house up ahead." Kyne argued.
"this storm is not gonna hold off for a couple of hours. we should bunker down now." Freyah said.
Freyah started pulling the tent from their pack and anchoring it down around the edges. the tent was barely enough when there were 4 of them. now there were 6. they would just have to huddle for a few hours until the storm passes.
Aerabella was excited she hadn't seen rain in 30 years. she wanted to feel it on her skin and play in it like when she and Jax were kids. Jax, she thought, does he remember us? he'd be an old man by now especially with 2 kids of his own. Suddenly Aerabella felt bitter. these two could have been her children. Unwin took that from her. She would make sure he paid for what he had done.
The tent was laid down and Aerabella and Loril were ushered in first. everyone had insisted they be in the center to stay warmer and dryer. but the tent soon became insufferable hot and humid with the warm rain outside. the whole experience was missurable and by the time the rain was done, hours later, they were all cramped and sweaty. the smell was atrocious though she knew a lot of it had to be from her and Loril. The cells they had lived in had no bathrooms or water, other than what they were given to survive, which in Aerabellas case was nothing because she would just regenerate each time. A realization hit Aerabella just then. She never had to die again. as long as she was free she was safe from death by that bastards hands. She smiled and a few tears fell from her eyes.
"Hey are you ok? you're crying." Fix asked concerned.
"I'm fine, just happy." Aerabella explained.
"about the stinky sweaty rain tent?" Kyne laughed.
"Yes" She was so happy that she got to experience this. Something she never thought she'd be able to do being stuck in her cell.
