Lin Haoming was in a good mood for the next few days. A few days later, the day finally arrived at Red Leaf Mountain.
On this day, a total of three hundred Qi Refining stage disciples gathered in the second-floor Hall of Affairs.
The Hall of Affairs, which rarely appeared for many years, was now headed by the withered-faced old ancestor Zhuang Huai, a fifth-level Golden Core cultivator. His gaunt, skeletal face swept over all the Qi Refining stage disciples present.
Lin Haoming had arrived early with Wang Chen. Upon arriving, they found Wu Hongfei, known as the number one outer sect disciple.
Lin Haoming noticed that the three hundred people present were mostly in groups of three, and many of these small groups of three had joined other small groups to form larger groups. However, his group was completely ignored.
Lin Haoming quickly realized that the reason no one was approaching was entirely because of Wu Hongfei's presence.
With his scarred face, which looked like everyone owed him a huge debt, it was practically as if the words "Keep Out" were written on his forehead.
Wang Chen quickly realized this as well. The two exchanged a helpless glance, while Wu Hongfei remained arrogant.
If it weren't for Xie Ruolan's matchmaking, neither of them would have bothered with him at all.
Of the three hundred people present, at least half were cultivators at the Great Perfection of Qi Refining, with roughly equal numbers of outer and inner disciples.
Lin Haoming's ninth-level Qi Refining cultivation was somewhat weak here, but there were quite a few others. As for those below the ninth level, they were very few, but not nonexistent.
These people either had their own powerful backers or were taking a final gamble on their path to immortality. Although their cultivation levels were low, they shouldn't be underestimated. It's safe to say that anyone who dared to come here was no pushover.
"Disciples, according to the rules, you may use any means to deal with others in the spirit stone mine, but you cannot bring a single spirit stone inside. There will be people checking. As for replenishing your spiritual energy, there are spirit stones everywhere inside; just dig them up yourselves..."
The withered-faced ancestor recited the rules. They already knew these rules, but since the ancestor had spoken, everyone naturally had to obey.
After he finished speaking, everyone followed him towards the teleportation hall.
Qi Refining stage disciples could only fly using magical artifacts, so various magical artifacts were unleashed, and the three hundred disciples soared into the air together—a rather spectacular and lively sight.
Lin Haoming remained mounted on the mother-and-child swords, Wang Chen wielded a long spear, and Wu Hongfei carried a large saber and a ghost-head saber—both high-grade magic weapons. Clearly, these were his usual weapons, and it was unknown how many lives they had slain; even approaching them, one could feel a faint aura of malevolence emanating from their blades.
At this point, Lin Haoming realized that Wu Hongfei might indeed be extraordinary. Xie Ruolan's assessment of his strength was certainly valid; at least until he was absolutely certain, it was best not to harbor any thoughts about him.
Back at the teleportation hall, after some modifications, some teleportation arrays that originally led elsewhere were changed to lead to Red Leaf Mountain. This saved the time spent exchanging spirit stones, and the more than three hundred people were quickly teleported there.
Upon arriving at Red Leaf Mountain, Lin Haoming and the others reached the ground, where they saw the withered-faced ancestor open his mouth and spew out countless bones, as black as ink. With a casual flick of his finger, under a flash of dark light, the bones merged into one, transforming directly into a dragon.
As the withered-faced patriarch cast his incantation, the jet-black bone dragon rapidly expanded, soon reaching a size of a hundred zhang (approximately 33 meters), tumbling and spinning in mid-air as if it had come back to life.
The withered-faced patriarch, Zhuang Huai, was the first to fly atop the bone dragon's head, calling out, "Come on up, everyone! Keep your spirits up, don't tarnish the prestige of our Blood Refining Sect!"
The distance to the Red Leaf Mountain spirit stone mine wasn't actually that far, so logically, there was no need to ride such a bone dragon.
However, upon arriving at Red Leaf Mountain, Lin Haoming saw a hundred-zhang-long kasaya and a giant sword of similar length carrying disciples from Vajra Temple and Heavenly Sword Mountain, and he understood.
"Benefactor Zhuang, Madam You, this humble monk has something to say!"
The three groups arrived almost simultaneously. An elderly monk with a seemingly kind face, atop the kasaya, was the first to bow and greet the two.
"Monk Wuxin, stop feigning compassion. Let's finish this quickly; I still have a batch of pills to watch over!" Zhuang Huai seemed quite displeased with the monk, his tone rather unfriendly.
Monk Wuxin appeared to be in his sixties or seventies, his bald head bearing no ordination scars. His appearance, however, matched the description of a kind and benevolent-looking monk, giving the impression of a highly accomplished master.
On the other side, Madam You, dressed in a white palace gown, her jet-black hair styled in an updo adorned with a jade hairpin, possessed a radiant beauty and an elegant, noble air, exuding an aura of innate wealth.
Upon Zhuang Huai spoke, Madam You smiled slightly and said, "Master Wuxin, Fellow Daoist Zhuang makes a good point. I don't want to waste time here; let's begin."
As she spoke, Madam You took the lead, controlling her massive flying sword to land on the ground.
Seeing her do this, Monk Wuxin and Zhuang Huai immediately followed, putting away their respective magical artifacts. On the ground, the three sects had already deployed numerous disciples, setting up three teleportation arrays, each capable of transporting three people, clearly for the use of disciples from each sect.
Just then, Lin Haoming's gaze fell upon a very familiar figure.
Not far behind the monk Wuxin, a young monk who looked about seventeen or eighteen years old, with delicate features, was curiously observing him.
Noticing that Lin Haoming had spotted him, the young monk deliberately gave a meaningful smile.
This young monk was none other than the one Lin Haoming had encountered on Red Leaf Mountain, the one who, after a fight, discovered the spirit stone mine—the one who called himself Fayuan.
According to Xie Ruolan's guess, this young monk should have a significant background. And since he discovered this spirit stone mine, he should have rendered a great service to the Vajra Temple. Why, instead of receiving a reward, was he, like her, ending up in this godforsaken place? Had he been punished?
Lin Haoming was momentarily confused, and in fact, the young monk Fayuan himself was also puzzled. How come the guy who had fought him back then, without receiving any sect rewards, had also come here? Could it be that this kid, like himself, had been forced here by the older guys to undergo hardship and training? If so, wouldn't that stunningly beautiful woman who used to be by his side be his now?
Fayuan looked at Lin Haoming, a pang of envy rising in his heart.
