Actually, mana can be restored with some pills, but whether it's a Qi-restoring pill or a more efficient Spirit-restoring pill, they all contain impurities. It's best to eliminate them as soon as possible after taking them.
Furthermore, while mana restoration is easy, mental depletion takes time. Wu Hongfei seemed to have won beautifully, but facing those Buddhist beads actually consumed a lot of his spirit. He rested for two full hours before recovering.
Compared to him, Wang Chen and Lin Haoming, who hadn't suffered much depletion, recovered quickly.
While Wu Hongfei was still meditating, the two of them pried off some spirit stones; it was better than doing nothing.
Lin Haoming also glanced at the corpses in the spirit beast pouch. The three monks were indeed extraordinary. Ordinary cultivators, unless they had reached the Foundation Establishment stage, would quickly lose their spiritual energy upon death. However, the corpses of these three young monks still retained a considerable amount of spiritual energy, enough for Lin Haoming's marrow-eating worms to absorb.
After Wu Hongfei recovered, the three resumed their activities.
Wu Hongfei released the vampire rat again and, as before, followed it.
This time, they hadn't run far when the passage ahead suddenly widened. Looking closer, they discovered a large cave not far away, where people were currently fighting.
Upon hearing the sounds of combat, the three immediately slowed their pace and more carefully concealed their auras. Lin Haoming and Wang Chen exchanged a glance, both secretly delighted.
Clearly, this time it might be their turn to reap the benefits.
Just as they approached the cave entrance, they suddenly heard a strange "moo" sound.
The sound was peculiar, somewhat like the mooing of a cow, but different.
When the three of them reached the cave entrance, Lin Haoming was surprised to find at least seventeen or eighteen disciples of Tianjian Mountain surrounding a fiery red spirit beast with a crocodile-like body, but longer claws and a single fiery red horn on its head.
The spirit beast was clearly only at the peak of the first level, yet it was incredibly powerful. Not only was its leather armor impervious to swords and blades, but the flames emitted from its single horn were also extremely potent. Although it was at a disadvantage, it showed no signs of being killed.
Just as they were getting a clearer picture of the situation, a woman's voice suddenly called out, neither warm nor cold, "Friends over there, since you're here, don't hide."
The woman who spoke was none other than the one from Tianjian Mountain who resembled Madam You.
Upon hearing his presence revealed, Wu Hongfei immediately jumped out.
Lin Haoming noticed that the woman's expression was clearly surprised after he appeared, obviously not expecting him to show up.
Meanwhile, from another entrance leading to this cave, a young monk emerged with a grin—none other than Fayuan.
Lin Haoming knew perfectly well that the woman leading the Tianjian Mountain group had only noticed the young monk; he hadn't even noticed them.
He glanced at Wang Chen, who also looked helpless. Wu Hongfei, however, seemed completely unconcerned, relying on his strength.
"Esteemed benefactor, it's truly fate that we meet again!" Fayuan greeted Lin Haoming with a beaming smile and a bow.
Lin Haoming chuckled inwardly. "I said, Fayuan, what are you doing here?"
"Training, training! As the Buddha said, 'If I don't go to hell, who will?' This humble monk, out of compassion, has come here specifically to perform rituals for the deceased!" Fayuan said earnestly.
Lin Haoming had witnessed him perform rituals before and knew what they meant. Hearing this, he could only chuckle inwardly.
However, after his earnestness, the little monk's expression immediately changed, and he asked somewhat slyly, "Benefactor, where is that female benefactor who was with you last time, the one I had a connection with?"
"You mean Aunt Xie? She was taken in as a disciple by one of our sect's patriarchs after she reached Foundation Establishment!" Lin Haoming hadn't expected this little monk to still be thinking about Xie Ruolan, and he spoke the truth directly.
Upon hearing this, the little monk was overjoyed. That woman had actually reached Foundation Establishment and been taken in as a disciple by the sect's patriarch? Didn't that mean she had nothing to do with this kid? Didn't he have a chance?
As the young monk was pondering, Wu Hongfei, overhearing their conversation, said with a dark expression, "You little monk, why are you asking so many questions about Ruolan?"
"Ruolan? So her name is Xie Ruolan. A name that evokes both wisdom and virtue!" the young monk said self-satisfiedly.
Seeing the young monk's expression, Wu Hongfei's face darkened further. "You little bald monk, Ruolan is my future Daoist partner. How dare you even think about her!"
Upon hearing this, Fayuan slapped his bald head and looked at Wu Hongfei disdainfully. "Heh! Ruolan's skin is as smooth as ice, a peerless beauty. How could someone like you, with your fleshy face and scar, be worthy of her?"
"Bald monk, you're asking for death!"
Hearing being mocked by a young monk with a lower cultivation level than himself, Wu Hongfei didn't hesitate. He drew his greatsword and slashed at the young monk.
The young monk, seeing this, didn't hesitate either. He twirled his prayer beads around his hand and threw a punch at the greatsword.
"Bang!"
With a loud crash, in a flash, both men staggered back several steps, warily eyeing each other.
Lin Haoming knew the power of Wu Hongfei's sword strike, and the fact that the little monk could block it without transforming meant one thing: the little monk's strength had increased, and not just a little.
Lin Haoming now understood why the little monk dared to come here.
On the other side, the female cultivator from Tianjian Mountain was somewhat surprised. The two groups that had been lying in ambush had actually started fighting amongst themselves, which saved her a lot of trouble, allowing her to focus all her energy on dealing with the spirit beast.
"Senior Brother Wang, what kind of spirit beast is that!" Lin Haoming ignored the little monk and Wu Hongfei and asked Wang Chen directly.
Wang Chen's eyesight was indeed better than Lin Haoming's, and he recognized the spirit beast, whispering, "That's a fire crocodile, a spirit beast that lives in magma!"
"Hmm? Lives in magma, how did it get here?" Lin Haoming asked curiously.
"I don't know either. Maybe there's magma below us, and many of these spirit stone mines are fire-attribute spirit stones!" Wang Chen guessed.
Lin Haoming agreed with his assessment. Just then, the woman from Tianjian Mountain threw out several-foot-long talismans. The talismans weren't high-level, just freezing talismans, but after repeated use, the entire cave instantly became frigid, the ground and walls covered in frost almost immediately.
The fire crocodile was most afraid of the cold. Sure enough, with the change in environment, it, which had previously been able to fight the group, suddenly became sluggish and was quickly killed.
"That fire crocodile's horn is excellent for refining weapons, and its inner core is a key ingredient needed by Foundation Establishment cultivators who practice various fire-attribute techniques!" Wang Chen was somewhat envious as he watched the people from Tianjian Mountain reap their spoils.
For Lin Haoming, since Tianjian Mountain had already dealt with the spirit beasts, those seventeen or eighteen people now had time to deal with him. Meanwhile, Wu Hongfei and the little monk were still locked in a standoff.
