Chapter 11

"Hello, brother. I just called to tell you that I finally tendered my resignation to Onyx. I'll be leaving tomorrow." Amethyst spoke through her smartphone, during the free time she got that lunch time. She chose that particular time because she knew that it was also her brother's free time, and he certainly didn't appreciate being disturbed when he was at work. "Very well. The position of the Chairwoman of the Board of the hospital is already prepared for you. You will start on Monday, after the briefing we would have," her authoritative brother answered. "I understand, brother," she answered right away. "I just have a little request to ask of you…" Arthur then proceeded to listen to her in silence as she told him her little request. She just hoped that her brother would be open to what she would propose. This most likely would be her first action as the Chairwoman of the hospital. ________________________________________ Arthur turned off his phone after he talked with his sister. Looking at his watch, he saw that it was already five minutes to 1 PM, so he asked his secretary through the intercom if the person he was due to meet today arrived already. The employee said his affirmation and Arthur stood up right away to confront his guest. He walked towards the direction of main office's conference room, set on the 26th floor of the 35-storey building that his company owned at the heart of Ayala Business Center. The building was a very fitting image to their brand as a real estate and pharmaceutical company, along with investments in other trades as well. When he opened the door, he found the guest, with no other companion, who immediately stood as well to shake hands with him. "Mr. Arthur Ledesma," the guest uttered as he extended his hand, which Arthur received. "Mr. Trevor Schwarz," he echoed. "No lawyer with you today?" "No," the hotel heir shook his head. "I was hoping this to be a gentleman's agreement as much as I could." Arthur signaled him to sit down while he did the same so that they were face-to-face in the round table. He got down to business right away as he was not a fan of wasting his time. "Not to be rude, Mr. Schwarz, but I know that whatever the goal of this meeting is, it involves my sister. I have sources confirming your meeting with her at your hotel. So may I ask you, what are you planning?" His stone cold glare did not deter the hotel heir's even colder demeanor, who responded nonchalantly, saying: "I'll be honest… I only have one goal: to propose marriage to your sister." ________________________________________ "So bro, what happened to my request? Did Ms. Amy say anything?" Vance asked him as they stopped for a short coffee break. At the mention of his lady boss' name, Chris was suddenly tempted to get flustered as he remembered his activities last night. That… was definitely not one of his proudest faps. "She didn't say anything, just that the announcement would be for tomorrow," Chris responded as normal as he could. "Oh. Well then, thanks for asking her for me." Vance friend tapped him in his shoulder. "Wish me luck tomorrow." "Yeah, sure," Chris nodded before he took a sip of his coffee. ________________________________________ Amy still had a few minutes free so she just brought out her sandwich to munch on for her lunch. It was tuna topped with multiple pineapples, her favorite fruit nowadays. In the silence of her office, her mind drifted to the unreal experience she had last night. The people rushing to her side snapped Amy back to reality, and she stood up right to free the man she had smothered over. That was when Allen first reached her, frantically asking if she was alright. She nodded as she felt that nothing was really wrong, since the man pulled her in before she got hit and even bore the brunt of their fall. Instead, she knew that it should be the man who she should be asking that question. "Are you alright?" She turned to the man who finally got up from the ground, his polo shirt and slacks a bit dirtied from the mud. Gosh, he was tall, maybe about 6"3' in height, so she really was dwarfed by the guy who stood in front of her. The man smiled for a bit first before he nodded. "No need to worry about me. How about you? Are you alright?" Amy was surprised that such a tall man could have a soft-spoken voice. "I'm quite alright… thanks to you." Their little conversation was stopped when the track's manager came over to check on them, as it suddenly occurred to Amy that he hadn't seen this man before. She knew all the people who frequented the track, so she was sure that this man was new here. "Sir Jensen! Are you alright?" The manager rushed to the man, brushing aside Amy. "I'm okay," he answered and then turned to Amy right away. "It's the lady that you should ask about." It was only then the manager noticed her. "Ms. Flores, how about you?" ________________________________________ Fifteen minutes later, she was sipping coffee on the stands while she watched Allen assess the damage to his bike. His face told her it didn't look to be doing well. She learned that the man who rescued her was the potential buyer of the track, since the current owner was going to migrate abroad. Maybe that was why the manager seemed to be too accommodating to him before. "How are you faring, Miss?" Amy suddenly jumped from her seat when she heard the familiar soft voice. When she turned her head, she saw that it was the man earlier. "I'm okay. Thanks again for saving me," she answered. The man nodded as his dark brown eyes regarded her intensely. "Jensen Del Rosario by the way. I'm sorry I forgot to make my introductions earlier." He then extended his hand to her, which she accepted. "Amy Flores," she responded. "It's late, Ms. Flores. Do you want me to take you home? I mean, I'm sure it's a bit dangerous for a lone woman like you to go home at this hour." She refused though, since she did not know the man enough to trust him to her home. Later though, as she cuddled with Beerus at bed (who was suddenly a lot more clingy these days, she noticed), she would wonder why Mr. del Rosario was so kind to her. Amy then swallowed the last of her sandwich. She had more tasks to do and thinking about a man she just met was not that productive. Furthermore, she knew there was something that she must dread: announcing that Vance would be fired. ________________________________________ "I only have one goal: to propose marriage to your sister." Arthur pursed his lips in response as he thought of what to say next. As he observed the chillingly blank gaze of the hotel heir across from him, a question popped in his mind. "Mr. Schwarz, may I ask how you met my sister?" "On the middle of the highway in Tanay, Rizal. She was driving her Harley – Davidson like she owned the streets while I was stranded in the middle of it because my car broke down. I needed a hitch; she provided it." Arthur was silent for awhile, and then he nodded. "I see. The caretaker of our resort has informed me before that she always goes there on her motorcycle. My sister seems to have a penchant for such vehicles… though I wished she didn't." Trevor inclined his head, as if asking him to clarify what he just uttered. "Why so?" Arthur sighed. "It's unbecoming of a lady. Add the fact that it's dangerous." "Not if she is careful… which I would say she is. She does not trust easily, as I even had to reassure her a lot of times that I'm not dangerous." Arthur scoffed, albeit still elegantly. "Considering your request just right now, she had good cause." He looked at the hotel heir's eyes directly. "Tell me, Mr. Schwarz. Why do you wish to marry my sister?" Trevor Schwarz's impenetrable eyes had a certain glint on them as he met Arthur's stone-hard glare. "It had nothing to do with your family's vast wealth, I assure you. I don't need your money as I myself am quite comfortable with ours. Although I wouldn't deny that our two families joining together would not be so bad. In fact, it would be so beneficial." "Then what is it exactly?" It was the hotel heir's turn to shrug. "I think your sister is interesting. Very quiet, very secretive. I find myself quite puzzled with her." If there was anything that Arthur agreed on with Mr. Schwarz, it probably was this observation. "You're quite right about that. That's why I would suggest that you should think more carefully about marrying my sister. There are some things that you must know about first if you want me to allow you to continue getting on with my sister." "You can tell me." Arthur shook his head. "Not now. Not when I know you're being serious with my sister." The hotel heir raised his eyebrow. "I'm serious with her." "I don't need your words, Mr. Schwarz. I want you to prove it."
