Chapter 6

"Would you go on a date with me?" "I-I beg your pardon?" Amy creased her forehead as she got rooted in her place. The other occupants of the room were not so different as a deafening silence was heard. Mr. Schwarz strode leisurely into her direction and stopped right in front of her. He was not even content with that and came to draw closer to her, making Amy step back until the chair behind her prevented her. The hotel heir stopped until he was almost pinning her. Amy was seriously wondering if this could be considered as harassment in the workplace, while her colleagues merely watched the scene transfixed. When he got close enough, he leaned in to whisper in her ear. "Meet me tonight at seven PM at the address written in the card." He then slipped something into her breast pocket. ________________________________________ Amy, who was very much bewildered with the turn of events, was not able to answer fast enough as the hotel heir withdrew so fast and walked briskly towards the door, with his lawyer and secretary following him. The moment he was outside the conference room, that was when she gathered her wits and quickly made a move to follow the man, intending to confront him regarding his intentions. However, as she did so, that was when people suddenly swarmed her, with the company director being the first to get into her way. "Ms. Flores, please go on a date with him! This is our chance!" The big-bellied man told her. "U-uhmm… Well… L-let me make up my mind first," she answered when she was assaulted by a remark from Mrs. Hurtada, the head of the Accounting Department. "Amy, do you know the guy? Dios mio, you're so lucky! That man is so loaded, you could probably buy the whole company!" The comment made the director glare at the older woman. Desperate to escape the interrogation now, she help up her hands and said, "Can I answer the questions later? I need to talk to Mr. Schwarz. Excuse me." Amy did not let them answer and she hastily ran outside, silently wishing that she could still catch the man. She impatiently waited for the elevator to come up and open, and while going down, she was counting the seconds. When she got into the parking area of the building, she did not see anyone there, and when she asked the guard, he told her that the hotel heir and his entourage were already gone. Feeling disappointed, she trudged back on to her floor quite panting out of her exertion earlier. She was dragging her feet on the brightly-lit but deserted hallway when she caught a glimpse of Chris waiting up for her at the bend. When he saw her, he immediately walked towards her. "Are you okay, Ms. Amy? You look quite exhausted." Concern could be heard from his voice. Amy waved her hand nonchalantly. "Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks." She muttered under her breath: "I'm just pissed I was not able to catch the guy." The tall guy nodded. "That's great to hear," he said briefly. They now walked down the hallway together, both silent. Suddenly, Chris stopped walking, making her do the same. Amy looked at him with confusion in his eyes when her subordinate spoke up, his head bowed and his hair shielding his eyes from her probing ones. "Ms. Amy… How… How did you know Mr. Trevror Schwarz? Are you going to date him?" She was shocked by the directness of the question, especially by a subordinate who was not even close to her. Nevertheless, she found herself answering honestly. "I met him once… But it was brief and I did not even recognize him. It's only now that I learned who he really was. As for your second question, I haven't decided yet, but it puzzles me because I think your question is a bit personal." The man seemed embarrassed when he replied. "Sorry it came off that way. I did not mean to. But I'm just worried for you, Ms. Amy! What if that Trevor Schwarz is a dangerous man? You should not go alone anywhere with him!" That made Amy chuckle for a bit, but she felt amused by the concern being shown by Chris. "Don't worry about me. Mr. Schwarz ensured in our first meeting that he was not a dangerous man. I guess I would need to meet him again so I can ask him what his deal was." "Are you going alone? I can go with you, just in case…" Amy smiled at the tall guy briefly. "No need to. Like what I've been telling you before, I can take care of myself. Thanks for the concern though." ________________________________________ She did not want to go here, but she found herself at the entrance of the La Porte, a five-star French Restaurant in the old Snowdrop Hotel in Manila. The building screams of Romanesque inspiration, which was understandable since the building was built in the early 20th century during the American occupation. Old rich elegance was felt in every nook and cranny, and the restaurant was no exception. To be honest, Amy had no plans in going to this meeting (she did not view it as a "date"), even if the director had been hounding her ass about it the whole afternoon. However, once she realized that she wouldn't know about the man's intention behind his declaration, she opted to go through. When she got inside, the maître d' instantly went to assist her, asking about her reservation. She only had to show the card that Mr. Schwarz gave her and a look of welcoming recognition lit up the man's face. He told her to follow him, and curiously, the maître d' did not lead her into one of the tables inside, but rather, to the balcony, where it was out of sight of other customers and was lit with candle lights. When she reached the table, the hotel heir was standing with his back turned away from her. It was not until the maitre d' left that he turned to face her. "Good evening, Ms. Flores. I'm glad that you were so kind as to grant my request to have dinner with you." He spoke with such a cold voice that she only knew from one person, but Mr. Schwarz's tone made Amy feel more chilled, not in a good way. "I'm not mad, Mr. Schwarz. I just want to ask you a question," she answered as she remained rooted in her place, her hand unconsciously clenching the strap of her handbag tight. The hotel heir looked at her with a blank glare, and then inclined his head. "Not a problem. But I hope you could take a seat first." "No need," she answered with an underlying defensive tone. "Are you doing this because of the money you owe me from before?" Trevor Schwarz put his hand inside the pocket of his slacks as he went on to answer her. "Not really, but that's part of the reason. I really want to share a dinner date with you, though." Amy couldn't be convinced, especially when the man was looking at her with such an unemotional expression. "Well, I think you shouldn't have included my company if you just wanted to show gratitude. I would have wanted it if you would be awarding us the investment because of the merits of the presentation and not because you owed me." The tall man in front of her shrugged. "I liked the presentation, actually. In fact, I have decided to make the investment even if you hadn't come tonight. But it was not my goal. I wanted to see you." Amy creased her forehead as she analyzed the situation. "Oh. Is that so? Then I guess there's no need for me to be in this dinner after all. If you would excuse me, Mr. Schwarz." She turned around. "Are you going to escape again, like how you did with your family, Amethyst Flores-Ledesma, heiress of the Ledesma Group of Companies and half-sister of CEO Arthur Ledesma?" He called out to her suddenly, making Amy stop in her tracks. She abruptly faced him again, a look of shock in her face. "H-how did you know about that?" The man smirked, still a cold look in his face. "Please, have dinner with me." ________________________________________ Chris did not know why he was here, but he suddenly found himself at the entrance of the five-star hotel that that Trevor Schwarz owned. Ms. Amy would not appreciate it if she saw him waiting there like a stalker… but he couldn't help himself. What if-What if that Trevor Schwarz was a dangerous person? He certainly could not let his boss, a lone woman at that, to be alone with that guy! His lady boss just got inside a few minutes ago, but Chris was already decided that he would wait up outside so that he would surely know if ever the rich motherfucker hotel heir took Ms. Amy anywhere she was not supposed to be. He didn't know why, but he certainly didn't want to trust this young heir! To be honest though, he was wondering why he suddenly felt protective of his lady boss, when just a few weeks ago, he was feeling irritated with her…. He shook his head… He really was going crazy now.
