"Even the weakest man can go beyond his strength in the name of love. Its immeasurable power can endure any circumstances: it overcomes hardship... pain and even such distance."
It's been 2 weeks already since Alyssa and Zack's last meeting, and he was absolutely insane waiting for her to reach him. She never called.
Alyssa has decided not to contact him, because she believed that it's not necessary since she has a boyfriend, and they are getting married any time soon.
As much as he wanted to forget about her, he felt his feelings was getting deeper the more he miss her. And it pains him a lot, to think that Alyssa doesn't feel the same for him.
"Zack where are you? Are you coming here tonight to support your favorite cousin?"
Darren called Zack's number while standing in front of the lobby's entrance.
His body was trembling. His voice was shaky enough to know that he was very nervous.
"I'm sick dude!" Zack replied with an undertone voice.
"No way man!" Darren exclaimed. "I need you here to cheer for me. You know how much I am counting on you."
"Alright! I'll catch up in a bit, see you" Zack hanged up as he glanced at the wall clock.
"Humph! I am so damn lazy to go out tonight." He muttered.
"But the poor man needs companion." He said to himself, then grabbed his towel and went straight to the bathroom.
"Such a relief!" Darren murmured. He still sounded so nervous until he has seen a familiar face walking towards the Gallery's hallway.
"Hey, excuse me!" He shouted, trying to catch the woman's attention. And he just did. The girl in a maroon bare back slip dress stopped from walking and looked at his direction with confusion on her face.
"Hi! I'm Darren Johnson." he ran to the girl and offered a hand shake.
Aly was just looking at his face, trying to recognize him. "I'm sorry! But, do I know you? Or have we met before?" She asked
"We don't actually know each other, and we haven't met before. This is our first meeting Miss, but not my first time to see your beautiful face." He began providing the details as they walked together to the gallery.
"You were at the Madison Plaza hotel a month ago for the Mademoiselle's party, right?"
Alyssa nodded "yes!"
"We were also invited. My cousin and I saw you when you were at the palace garden." He explained as he handed her a glass of wine, while looking at the masterpiece of each artist.
"Thanks, I am Alyssa Park. Where is your artwork?"
"It's over there and Darren pointed his finger to the big silver color ceramic vase with gold ethnic engraved.
Alyssa walked to that direction, and she was mesmerized on how beautiful his creation is, as she looked closer.
"Awesome!" she murmured.
"So are you my fan now?" he asked as he laughed.
"I think so!" she replied with a smile while still touching the engraved design. She likes art so much, she could easily appreciate any form of art because she believes that - it's an expression of one's self.
"Now it's your turn lady, where is your creation?" Darren started being curious about Aly's entry for the exhibition. He was interested to know more about her, so he could brag about her with his cousin who was dying to know and meet her.
Then she looked at the Mannequin under the spotlight and smiled.
"So that's your work!" Darren hurriedly grabbed her wrist to go to her masterpiece.
There, the Mannequin wears a nude see through organza A Line dress with a hand painted face of an angel, covering her left eye with her hand while leaving the other eye opened with tears rolling down her cheeks.
"This is so dramatic! His voice was thick, he actually fell in love with her painting.
"That means something, right? It's not just a."
"It's a fallen Angel!" She said quickly- before Darren could say another word.
"Got to meet the organizer for a small talk, I'll see you around later." Then she left Darren contemplating at her artwork.
"Hey man! I've been waiting for you at the entrance, did you get my message?"
A man suddenly appeared from his back after a few minutes of standing. "Dude! You made it" while checking his mobile for the text message.
"Sorry I didn't read your message on time, I was with the girl a while ago."
Darren explained as his eyes were looking around to find her.
"And who was the unlucky girl who spent time with you, huh?" he joke as Zack threw a small punch on his arm.
"You wouldn't believe it!"
"Try me!" Zack teased his cousin with a smirk.
Darren began talking as he looked around, with excitement he said "Remember the girl at the Madison Plaza Hotel that you stalked around?" Before he could finish his lines, Zack suddenly becomes anxious.
He already knew who was the girl his cousin was talking about.
"It's Alyssa! He exclaimed. "You've met Alyssa Park?"
"You know her?" Darren was surprised that Zack already know her name.
"Yes, we've met!" Zack was searching the gallery area, trying to find the woman he longs to see.
Her name lingered in his ears.
His heart was thumping over the fact that Alyssa was just around the corner. He can't wait to see her again.
"What is she wearing dude?" Zack asked for details, and sweat beads appeared on his forehead when he felt those crazy butterflies in his stomach.
"She wears a maroon dress man- just look around. She might be there somewhere."
"I remember, she said she'll have a small talk with the event organizer. Check her out at the lounge area." And Darren pointed the direction on where he should go.
Zack quickly went out of the gallery to search for Alyssa in the lounge area, when his eyes caught someone in the lobby!
It was the same girl at the Mademoiselle party. The girl who was drinking with Aly that night.
Without having an awkward feeling. He approached her ridiculously.
"Excuse me, Miss! You are Aly's friend, right?" he asked and Mandy was shocked when he felt his hand on her elbow, when he halted her.
"Yeah, I am?" she said while looking at his hand on her elbow, and Zack immediately let her go when he realized what he did.
"Oh, I'm sorry to do that! But, have you seen Alyssa around?" His tensed body was giving me a hard time. He started to breathe heavily with those crazy butterflies in his tummy.
"She just left, she wasn't feeling okay" Mandy announced, and Zack was devastated.
"No! She can't leave." He said panicking. And he quickly dragged himself out of the hotel to look for her.
And just when he got outside the valet parking, his eyes instantly caught her lady, in distress. She was standing by the side wall of the hotel, holding her chest. And her knees were about to fall on the ground when he quickly reached for her shoulder at the back.
And she just fell on his chest once again. Right before she fainted.
"I got you baby!"
Alyssa turned her head and look at the face of the man who was holding her with all his strength- trying to keep her up.
She was wrapped within his buff arms, and she felt their bodies communicate as she laid down on his temple.
Alyssa muttered "I'm allergic to nuts Zack, I think I ate one from the brownies" after the revelation, she suddenly collapsed on Zack's shoulder and became unconscious.
"Aly! Aly! Wake up!" Zack exclaimed
"Aly, can you hear me? Somebody please call 911." Zack yelled for help. "Please stay with me baby!
She was rushed to the nearest hospital in the city.
"Hey, she'll be fine. Cheer up! Darren tapped his back while waiting outside the emergency room.
The doctor came out after a couple of minutes of treating her. He asked "Are you the guardian?"
"Yes, I'm her friend. We were at the party when she fainted." Zack explained while rubbing his both hands together, feeling so nervous about what he would hear regarding Aly's condition.
"How is she?"
"She is safe now" the doctor declared and Zack felt relieved.
"We gave her an adrenaline shot for her allergy, so she'll be okay soon. She will be under observation and if she feels better by tomorrow, she can go home right away."
"Thank you!" Zack uttered and he felt his heart has calmed down a bit.
"I'll go ahead dude! Will you be okay here?" Darren said after a few minutes of being with Zack outside Aly's room.
"Thanks man, I'll call you later" and Zack sent him off before visiting Aly.
She was sleeping when he got into the room, and as he stood by the bed - he watched Alyssa quietly.
He brushed her hair with his fingers and let his tears gather in the corner of his eyes.
"I've waited so long just to see your smile and hear your voice baby, why does it have to be this way? You got me worried sick." Then he kissed Aly's hand.
Aly slowly moved her head. She moaned when she felt her head ache a bit.
Her voice was undertone, she was clearing her throat like she wanted to say something.
"Ssshh! don't say anything, try to get some rest" Zack said while looking at her pale face.
"Excuse me! Who are you?" a hoarse voice suddenly spoke from Zack's back.
He turned around and saw an old man whose age was probably at 60. He has the same hazel eyes like Aly's and thick eyebrows.
His face resembles the woman he likes, reason for him to figure out right away who the man was.
"I'm Zack Andrew Murphy sir." he introduced himself with politeness and respect.
"I am Aly's dad" the man started to speak as he stroked her hair "Thank you for saving my daughter's life," his voice started to be croaky.
"I'm glad that someone was there to help and save her, just when she needed it the most."
Something seem to be upsetting the man, the way he talked, it was full of regrets.
"I didn't do much sir." Zack said.
"You better leave now" Mr. Park said with a concern tone.
"When the nurse called me about Aly's condition, I was so worried about my daughter so I called her fiancé to inform him her condition. He is on his way now to see Aly." The old man explained.
With confusion, Zack tried to ask questions. But before he could say a word, Mr. Park interrupted him with a high tone...
"Don't ever see her again. Don't put her into trouble."
Before Zack could say something...
The door opened. It was Marcus who came rushing to see Aly.
Marcus was crying like a baby while holding Aly's hand. He was pressing, kissing and holding Alyssa's hand repeatedly.
"What happened to you sleepyhead? You got me so worried."
Zack was standing by the door, watching him touch Aly. He felt something strange in his heart while he does that.
Jealousy. His jaw tightened as he suppress the envy.
He was completely jealous with the man who's going to walk Aly down the aisle.
His knees started to shake, immediately he approached the man to bid goodbye, before he break down and cry in front of them. "I'll go ahead now."
Marcus looked at him and smiled. "You must be the guy who brought my fiancée here. Thank you for being there!" then he turned his back on Aly and kissed her forehead.
Without a word, Zack stepped out of the room. Behind the door he leaned his back and closed his eyes for a while, absorbing everything.
He felt the weakening of his body as he trailed the hospital alley. And in his mind, he was trying to solve a tricky puzzle.
"That night, at the bar- why did he run away from him?."
