Keep The Distance

A sudden silence had occurred as they both fell on the floor. Alyssa stood up and braced herself before walking out of the door. And he left Zack in despair, because of the harsh truth she spilled out right before his face. "I am not leaving Marcus for you!" straightforward he uttered. And that came to him like a deafening sound. She hated herself for saying that, but that's the least she could say to stop him from chasing her and loving her. She thought, maybe if she'll slap him with the truth he will give up on her. While walking herself through the hallway, her tears began to roll down her cheeks. "I like you Zack. I'm sorry!" She was anxious to leave him behind, but she couldn't stay any longer, she might sin for not being able to resist him. She wiped her tears and dialed a number on her phone as she came up with a drastic decision. "Hello Ms. Cindy, I'm just letting you know that I am done with the project and I have no reason to stay here any longer, so I decided to leave early in the morning, tomorrow. Thanks!” She hung up and went to her room to pack her things for an early morning check out. In her room, she put all her stuffs in her luggage bag and roamed around in the living room to check if she has forgotten something. And as she checked the couch, she was reminded by their sweet moments together during her first night in the hotel after his love confession. She could still taste the sweetness of his lips in her mouth just like vanilla. Full of flavor. She couldn't hide the feeling of satisfaction in every peck he made on her lips, the pleasure was too amazing. Before she knows it, a mischievous smile was formed on her face. She wanted to remove him in her mind so she decided to have a drink before going back to Brooklyn. And before leaving, she pulled the curtain panels to the side of the glass window. "Such a lovely view" she mumbled. For a moment, she felt relaxed for allowing her eyes to appreciate her surroundings. Then she decided to go the bar for the last round of alcohol, before going back to Marcus. After a few hours of staying in the bar, drinking and banging her head over the table... she decided to swim to get sober. So she didn't waste no time and stood up from her seat, but before walking out, she grabbed the 1/4 full bottle of tequila to finish it up at the pool area. As she reached her destination, she started bombarding herself with a lot of questions while getting herself ready to dive in. She walked through the diving board and when she reached the edge of it, she started mocking herself. "You are such a b***h, Aly!" hiccups every after words "How could you fall for that guy, when you already have Marcus?" she deeply inhaled before closing her eyes and let the cool breeze kissed her cheeks secretly. Her tears began to trespass in her eyes without permission when a memory of his warm touch and luscious lips came to her like a sweet dream. She felt her heart hurting every after scene, and as her heart suffer, her breathing came in short and she felt like losing her sanity because of this Ill-fated love. She couldn't stand that any longer, she has to forget him and the sooner she can be over him the better for her so she can accept her fate. After a couple of words she uttered in the wind, she decided to go back to her room to rest. And the moment she turned herself, her eyes widen out of shock. It was Zack. He was standing across the pool and was watching her the whole time, probably. She wasn't really sure about how long he has been there... since he was facing her back. For a couple of minutes there was silence. Alyssa was still standing on the diving board as she gazed into his eyes, she felt ashamed of herself. She looked terrible at that moment. She was totally wasted after a bottle of tequila. She wondered how she looks like since she was drowning in her own misery. Her hair was untied, no make-ups, she look pale and the pungent smell of the alcohol was totally awful all over her body. She pursed her lips as she rubbed her back nape feeling uncomfortable in front of him with that appearance. So she thought about going down and going back to her room without saying anything. She have already humiliated herself, she doesn't want another humiliation. But the moment she reached the pool area and saw the spot where she experienced the warmest embrace in her whole life – her heart panicked. Suddenly she felt her world crashed right on her fingertip. Carelessly, she tried to walk fast on the board to meet the end of it. And when her hand was reaching for the handle bar, she tripped herself and lost her balance. She was about to experience a hard fall, but as soon as Zack’s eyes caught the situation. Without hesitation, he immediately grabbed Alyssa's waist and held it against his body. Her body was safe, under his wings. "Are you hurt?" He whispered, and she didn't reply right away. Instead, she forced herself to get up. "I'm so sorry, I tripped on the…” Then suddenly he placed his finger over her lips to stop her from saying anything. "It's okay! I'm glad I was around to catch you." He muttered, and she was moved. "I am leaving tomorrow morning Zack" she said while curling her fingers. He nodded his head as he speak. "I heard it from Secretary Cindy." Zack looked in a different view to avoid her eyes, for he wanted to deliver his message to her in a smooth way. "I'm sorry if Cindy wasn't able to explain to you all the necessary details about your job contract here..." he began talking in a professional tone, since she met him...he has never been formal in speaking. He has always been this soft spoken and casual to her, but this time - he was speaking to her in a formal away. She almost forgot that Zack was not just an ordinary guy who was fascinated with her...But, he is the CEO of his own company. Alyssa looked at her with a bit of confusion. With her curiosity, she asked Zack about this job contract while they were standing in front of the elevator waiting for their turn. Zack did not show her any interest about stopping her to leave the resort. He doesn't want her to think that he was using his power and position to prevent her from going home; rather he spoke on behalf of the contract agreement between his company and the resort and Aly's job order from his company. "Cindy failed to include in your contract the other areas in this resort that needs to be painted. The Hotel owner wants to have the murals on every wide wall in the hallway." Zack divulged as he pressed the floor numbers on the elevator as they entered. Alyssa was in deep shocked. She wanted to turn down the project so she can avoid getting near him, but she doesn't want to be unprofessional. When Zack asked for her understanding regarding with this matter, she couldn't say no to him, knowing that Cindy will have to bear the consequences for not doing her job. Also, she doesn’t want his company to have a bad reputation, just because she doesn’t want to extend her contract. But despite of this, she was a bit doubtful about the job order Zack was telling her so she needed to see it in black and white first before she agrees. Just to make sure that Zack isn't doing this just to keep her. "Can you show me the contract or the job order for that?" she asked Zack with a fierce voice as she cleared her voice. "You can have and check it out tomorrow morning. Look for Manager Ross at the reception area and he can show you the contracts." He ordered. Alyssa just nodded her head and wait for Zack to get off on his floor. As soon as Alyssa reached her place, she grabbed her phone inside her coat. She had 10 missed calls from Marcus. Probably, Marcus was calling her during the time she was inside the bar, since the place was noisy she didn't hear it rang. And even if she does, she has no plan in answering, anyways. "What should I tell him?" she asked herself as she walked inside the hotel room. Zack crossed her mind all of a sudden as soon as she opened her bedroom door. The memory of the man who was sitting on the bed, looking and smiling at her came flashing back. Almost every corner of this place was filled with his remembrance, and mixed emotions have caught her like a hopeless kitten in the street. She wanted to believe that there might be a chance for them, for their feelings. But each time Marcus came across her mind and her family's debt, his condition, her father's reputation and more...the whole idea of taking the risk just vanished instantly. There was nothing else she can do about that. "Why do we have to meet Zack?" "Believe that you are exactly where the heaven wants you to be... The Universe is huge, and a star like you has a place in this world. "
