Chapter 3

1987 Words
Sabrina walked outside just seconds before the SUVs pulled up in front of the pack house.  She took a deep breath to steady herself, suddenly feeling very nervous.  She heard the door to the main SUV open and immediately shifted her eyes to forest behind the cars.  She took another deep breath and then looked at the man that was threatening her family.  Her breath caught in her throat and her mind cease to think of anything.  He was gorgeous. She would normally describe a male as handsome but that didn’t seem accurate for Alpha Emrys.  He had midnight black hair, amber eyes that looked like they were glowing with his own inner fire.  Tattoos covered his arms, his black t shirt seemed to be molded to his skin. One word floated across her mind. Mate.   Her body slowly started to move toward Emrys. She felt like she was floating, her legs seeming to move of their own accord, when an arm reached out and stopped her.  She looked at the hand on her arm and up to its owner.  Her twin brother, Leon, had kept her from moving forward.  He was questioning her with his eyes.  His steel grey eyes snapped held her sapphire blue ones for a moment.  The loud growl from Emrys snapped Sabrina back to reality.  Leon looked up and frowned at him for just a moment.  He looked between the Alpha and his sister.  They only had eyes for each other.  Leon removed his hand from Sabrina’s arm and watched as his sister walked over to the man that terrified every pack in the country.  Sabrina stopped when she stood directly in front of Emrys. Staring into his ember eyes, it felt as though the entire world was holding its breath.  They lost themselves in each other’s eyes.   Emrys took the initiative.  He set his hands on her waist, pulled her close to his body, lowered his head to the space between her neck and her shoulder, and inhaled deeply.  She smelled of cinnamon and vanilla.  It was the sweetest scent he had ever smelled in his life.  Her head came to the middle of his chest.   “Mate.” He said in a gruff voice.   “Mate.” She returned.   “What is your name?” he asked.   “Sabrina, Alpha.”  She whispered.   “Sabrina” he breathed.   It was as beautiful as she was.  Somewhere in the background, someone cleared their throat.  Emrys broke eye contact with Sabrina and looked at his Beta.  The sight of Lincoln snapped Emrys out of his trance.  He wrapped his arm around Sabrina’s waist and pulled her to his side.  He addressed his pack first.   “Rogue Moon will stay outside.  I need a few of you to go back to our land and get the pack ready to meet their Luna.  Sabrina Duvall is coming back with us.  She is my mate and will be treated with all the respect her position deserves.”   He then turned to the Sage Moon pack.  “Alpha Sebastian I hope you will forgive me for being distracted.  I wasn’t expecting to find my mate on your front porch.”  Sebastian nodded.   “Of course, Alpha Emrys.  Finding one’s mate always takes the focus for a bit.” Sebastian returned with a sad smile.  “Shall we go into my office and get this meeting started?” He asked. Emrys nodded.   He took hold of Sabrina’s hand and brought with him.  Once in the office, Emrys made himself comfortable on the couch and sat Sabrina next to him, his arm going around her shoulders.  He looked around the office.  There was a mahogany desk, two chairs in front of it, a tall bookshelf on one side of the office, next to the cushy couch.  Across the way was a flat screen tv and some family photos.  He noted that while Leon looked like Sebastian, with chocolate brown hair and storm grey eyes, Sabrina took after Melissandra.  Once everyone had filed into the office and had gotten settled, Sebastian address Emrys.  “What bring the Rogue Moon pack to our door?”   “My brother was attacked last night.  He’s in a coma and still in his wolf form.  We found him on the border of our lands.  I was hoping maybe Sage Moon could offer some insight about what could have happened to Rhett.” Emrys stated calmly.   Having Sabrina at his side was already making him calmer than he had thought would ever be possible.  At the moment, he really was hoping that Sebastian would have some answers for him, answers that didn’t include his mate’s pack.  Sebastian took a moment to answer, his eyes going to a picture of Melissandra.  In that moment, Marcus spoke up.   “Alpha Emrys, all due respect, but I sincerely hope you aren’t insinuating that Sage Moon had anything to do with your brother’s attack.  I know that we have had issues in the past but not even the Demon Dogs would be that stupid as to attack your brother.”   “No, Beta Marcus, I am not insinuating anything.  I am asking if anyone of you have heard of thing similar to this.  We came to you not only because of the where on the border Rhett was, but also because of how strong the scent of Sage Moon wolves was.  I am hoping that maybe one or some of your people may have seen or heard something that can point me in the right direction to take care of the ones that hurt my brother.” Emrys said looking right at Marcus.  Marcus lowered his eyes as a sign of respect for the Alpha.   Sebastian took a breath and said, “We have come across this before.  Unfortunately, I don’t have any leads for you to follow.  For the last 3 years I have been trying to find the culprits myself.  My wife, Melissandra, was attacked in the same manor three years ago.  We have tried and failed for three years to find out who would do something so evil as to leave a pack without its Luna.  I am sorry that this has happened to your brother.  I wouldn’t wish this on anyone.  Has he found his mate yet?”  Emrys nodded.  Sebastian’s voice was sad.  “Please tell his mate that if she needs someone to speak to about what she is going through, I will be available.  Sabrina also would be a great resource for her.”   “Alpha Emrys on this I hope you will accept my offer of our packs working together to find the culprit.  We had thought that Melissandra’s attack was done by rogues but with your brother being attacked so close to our border I doubt it.  All wolves know who you are and therefore know of your brother.  Anyone dumb enough to attack Rhett has to know that it is a death sentence for them and anyone that helped them.” Leon interjected.   He had been leaning against Sebastian’s desk, quietly watching Emrys.  Emrys had been absent-mindedly stroking Sabrina’s shoulder.  He seemed ridiculously calm given what they were talking about and how Marcus had spoken to him.  Rumors about Emrys said that he had no problem killing for far less.  Leon took a minute to also watch his sister.  Her face was pinched but her head was Emrys shoulder.  Knowing his sister like he does; Leon knew that the pinched face was for the subject.   “Thank you, Leon.  Yes, I will accept.  I suppose after you become Alpha, we shall have to get together and draw up a new treaty.  Your sister becoming my Luna will definitely change things.”  Leon nodded.   Emrys stood up.  “Well, if that is all that we have for the moment, we shall take our leave.  Sabrina, pack what you want to bring or pack nothing.  It makes no difference to me.  We will leave in thirty minutes.”  Emrys informed her.   “You want to leave now?!?” she exclaimed.  She knew she would have to leave her home but she thought they would at least stay the night and leave tomorrow.   “Yes.” Was his short reply.   “Couldn’t we stay the night?” she asked.   She was trying hard not to let her temper get the best of her.  After all, Emrys wasn’t just her mate, he was her new Alpha and since she wasn’t officially part of his pack yet, she still had to show him the respect his position as a visiting Alpha deserves.   “No.” was all he said again.  She frowned at him.   “Well why not?” she demanded.   Emrys said nothing.  On the inside, he was feeling conflicting emotions.  No one ever dared to question him.  He was feeling pride that his mate had no hesitations, but she should not question him in front of others.  He decided to explain things to her.  This one time.   “Sabrina I will answer you and explain myself, but understand that this is a one-time thing.  You don’t know me and therefore don’t understand what is expected of you.  I will teach you that later.  For now, the reason that we are leaving now is because I refuse to spend one night on someone else’s land.  It is a safety and comfort thing for me.  Now stop trying my patience, get packed, and say your goodbyes before I throw you over my shoulder and haul your pretty little ass out of here.” He said evenly.   The look he was giving her let her know that he meant every word.   “Of course, Alpha.” She spat at him with tears in her eyes.  She stormed out of her father’s office and went to go pack what she could.  She wouldn’t have time to go say goodbye to her mother.  Hell, she would barely have time to tell her father and brother goodbye. Stuffing clothes, pictures, and anything else she could grab into her duffle, she was trying not to think of what kind of Hell await her with the Rogue Moon clan.  If Emrys was already being this unreasonable, what else would he deny her?  Before the self-pity claimed her too much, Sabrina shook herself.  She was Sabrina Duvall, daughter of Sebastian and Melissandra Duvall.  She was an Alpha’s daughter and a soon to be Alpha’s sister.  She was stronger than this.  She would not let Emrys change her.  Teach her things indeed.  Maybe she would just teach him a thing or two.  With that in mind, she grabbed her bag and headed to the front door.  Her father and brother were already waiting for her.   “Behave yourself Brina.” Sebastian whispered.   “Of course, father.” She smiled.   “If they do anything you don’t like, just let me know.  I will come for you.” Leon told her.   “I can take care of myself brother.  Besides if my mate allows for anything I don’t like to happen, I will take care it and him myself.” She said impishly. Emrys let out a growl.  Sabrina rolled her eyes.   “I love you both.” She said before turning to get into Emrys’ car.  He got in behind her, and slammed the door shut.  The vehicle immediately started moving.  Sabrina looked out of the window next her, refusing to look at Emrys.  She whispered a goodbye to her mother, and tried to stop the silent tears that came.
