Best Friends

398 Words
I run outside to meet my best friend in the whole entire world. To everyone else, she's Catarina but to me, she's just Cat. We've been friends since we were toddlers. Our mothers are friends and met when we moved to Summer Oaks. It definitely wouldn't have been my first choice of towns but then I wouldn't have Cat. "Dia!" She screams. "Hey Cat. How's my best friend in the whole world?" She gives me the biggest, goofiest grin. "Now you wouldn't be saying that because I'm your only friend, would you?" I scoff. "I take it back. Sam is my best friend in the whole world," I say before sticking my tongue out at her. "Oh come on! Sam! Sam's just hoping he's your mate or that you'll take him for a chosen mate if he isn't," she says with complete and utter disgust. "I don't understand why you're even friends with him!" "Well, he is always looking out for me And we both know I don't want a mate. Not anytime soon, anyway." Cat gives me a knowing look. "Would that really be the worst thing in the world Dia? I mean, the moon goddess gives us the perfect mate to love us and complete us." Again, I scoff. "Alright," she says, " it's too early for the moon goddess and mates." We pull up to the school and like clockwork Sam is waiting for us in front. I'm not sure why he gets here so early, But he always beats us and he's always waiting. "Hey Nadia, Catarina," he says with a grin. "It's Cat! You know this, you asshat." Cat mutters through gritted teeth. "Careful now Kitty," Sam coos at her, "retract your claws. Mine are way bigger anyway!" He winks at her and she stomps away cursing him under her breath. "You know she's my best friend in the world," I say. "Why can't you just be nice to her? Or call a truce?" Sam smiles at me. "I'm not the one with the problem Nadia. She hates me. Remember?" I sigh. "I know. But, could you try, for me?" "And what do I get in return?" He smirks at me while my face turns beet red. "It's too early for this," I shout, running inside. Sam chuckles. "Hey, wait up princess!" He catches up to me as we head to our lockers.
