Whispers Between Two Hearts

429 Words
The night before, Ishika and Shiv Veer both drifted to sleep wrapped in imaginations of each other. But Shiv Veer’s sleep brought a dream unlike any other. In the dream, he found himself at an ancient temple where a frail old saint sat silently, barely able to stay upright from hunger and weakness. Shiv Veer instinctively offered him water and food. As the saint accepted, his eyes caught Shiv Veer’s palm, scanning the intricate lines. “You are born for your soulmate,” the saint whispered with reverence. “She is close — a princess of heart and spirit. A caring soul who nurtures family, friends, and strangers alike. You are lucky, young man. Your meeting is divinely timed.” Shiv Veer awoke, heart pounding with hope and confusion. --- The next morning was Friday — a day Ishika always reserved for devotion. Early, she called Shiv Veer. “Ishi: Hi, Veer.” “Shiv Veer: Good morning, Ishi. How are you?” “Ishi: I need a favor. Can you please pick me up from the temple?” --- At the temple, Shiv Veer arrived to find Ishika gently helping an elderly woman who had stumbled. Their eyes met — a spark igniting something deeper. After offering assistance, they moved inside together. As they completed the pradakshinas, Shiv Veer suddenly faltered, almost losing balance. Ishika caught him from behind, steadying him with a soft touch. Their eyes locked — a silent song playing in the space between them. Nearby, a priest smiled knowingly, “You two seem made for each other.” They laughed awkwardly, “No, we’re just colleagues.” The priest nodded with a chuckle, “Sorry, just a feeling.” --- Back at the office, the ride was heavy with silence. Neither spoke, but their hearts were in conversation — tender, uncertain, hopeful. Inside, neither could focus on work; their thoughts were tangled in dreams and the unspoken bond blossoming between them. --- That night, Ishika called her closest friend Narmada, voice trembling with excitement and disbelief. “Narmu, today… everything felt like fate. I saw him, Shiv Veer. Our eyes met. I don’t know what to do.” Meanwhile, Shiv Veer sat alone, thoughts swirling. Is Ishika really my soulmate? Why does my heart tell me she’s the one? I think I’ve fallen… but I need to know her feelings. Should I ask her for a date? What if she feels the same? What if she doesn’t? No, I must try — because the heart knows when it’s found home. --- To be continued…
