Chapter 23 When I woke up, I spent several minutes playing out last night's events. Xaero's figure as he walked out remained in a constant, never ending loop behind my eyelids. Guilt was such an inescapable foe. I wanted nothing more than to burrow myself deeper under my covers and never emerge from its depths again. My whole being fought me as I rolled out of bed and dragged myself to the ensuite. Because my legs couldn't be trusted to hold myself together long enough for a shower, I decided to run myself a bath. I laid out my clothes for today as I waited.
