In the southwest wall of the castle, there was a sewer that connected to a series of escape tunnels to be used in case of a siege. Zachary said Drakos didn’t want to get it installed when they were building his fortress in the first place, but he managed to convince the Unseelie Fae King that it might come in handy in the future.
Zachary just didn’t specify whom it would come in handy for.
Vile-smelling water sloshed against the ankles of my boots, the brackish quality of it making me unwillingly question just what kind of filth we were stepping in. Zachary and his scout, Artas, led us through the tunnels, quiet in spite of the massive wings that barely fit through the cramped walls. I held the rear, Castor close in front of me, while Avery trailed behind Artas.
