CHAPTER 1.

1092 Words
Several generations ago, dark lord Kees and his mistress Verona ruled over the empire of Gouna with their dark arts. But they were brought to justice by a very powerful wizard of light of their time called Ned. Ned was able to defeat dark lord Kees by killing Verona his mistress. After the death of Verona, dark lord Kees vanished and no one ever saw him again. But most people of the empire said that since the dark lord was not killed, he was going to return and his second reign would be greater than that of his former. Well, the white magicians gathered together to find out the reason behind the sudden disappearance of the dark lord Kees and they came to discover that he had disappeared because Verona's life was he's and he's was Verona's. So since Verona was dead, he also was dead and they had nothing to worry about again. Then the white magicians made their discovery known to the entire people of the empire and it made some of them take away the thoughts that dark lord Kees would return and the empire lived free from his threats and was in peace. Since there was no dark lord to afflict them, those born from the lineage of magicians had to live as normal people and most of them stopped the practice of sorcery. After a century, a wizard by the name Peder left his brother Greg and moved from the village of Meo to the city of Raia which was the capital of the empire and his aim of leaving was to seek a wife whom he would settle with. When he had entered the city of Raia, he met a beautiful witch called Rada whom he fell in love with and he took her to be his wife. Peder went into his wife and she conceived of a child. When the pregnancy of Rada was due for delivery, she gave birth to a male child whom Peder named Elek. Seeing that the child looked strong, Rada said to her husband. "This boy would grow up to become a very powerful sorcerer if he is taught how to use his magic." But Peder replied in doubt, "We are not sure of that yet." "Why do you say so? We are both from the magic clan so this child should have magic in him." Rada said. "Let us not be like the other brethren who have forgotten the importance of magic and had neglected it. This child should be trained by one of the great wizards of light." She suggested in addition. "I am afraid that history may repeat itself in my family again." Peder said to his wife. "I do not get you, please tell me the meaning of what you said." Rada requested. Then Peder explained to Rada as she had demanded. "My father and mother were both magicians and when they gave birth to I and my brother, they were filled with joy that they had produced two sorcerers but unfortunately, I was the only one who had magical powers and my elder brother had none, so he was mocked by other students and we both had to leave the school. So what I am saying is that, in order to prevent him from being mocked, we won't send him to any of the great wizards for training until we are sure that he has powers in him." "In that case we will have to wait until he turns eighteen for his powers to begin to manifest." Rada said. "Yes that is what I am saying." Peder said. After three years, the great wizards and witches of the empire were gathered together in the capital of Gouna for an important meeting and those who came were as follows; Ned, the greatest and oldest of them all, Craig, Demi, Pero and Elda. When they were all seated in a hall for the meeting, Ned said to the rest of the sorcerers. "Welcome to you all, great wizards and witches of this empire. I am very happy to see that we have all gathered together again. And we all know the reason for this gathering." "Yes we know the purpose for this gathering but there is something which I saw and would like to make it known to the rest of you although I know some of us must have also seen it in our various visions." Demi, a witch said. "Speak up, tell us of this thing which you have seen in your vision because the reason why we are here is to tell each other of things which we have seen concerning our empire." Craig said to Demi. Then Demi said, "In the vision which I saw concerning the empire, it was not governed by magicians anymore, rather it was governed by the people, someone stood as the emperor of Gouna and he had governors in the seven cities of the empire who were assisting him in the leadership of the empire. But I was not able to understand the meaning of this vision." "This vision of yours must be stopped from happening." Elda said. "We all know what happened during the period when one man had to rule the empire, how he graduated from a mare sorcerer like us to becoming a god so as to rule the empire forever. We know how Ned managed to put an end to his reign and it was not an easy task, so on that note I will say that this vision should not come to pass." The witch added. "That will surely come to pass." Ned said. "Why do you say so? Why can't it be stopped from happening?" Pero asked. "The vision will come to pass because the era of magic is coming to an end, and mare men must learn how to manage the empire in our absence, if we do not teach them now then this empire will fall." Ned said. "So you are saying we need to appoint the men who would rule this empire while we are gone?" Pero asked Ned again. "Yes that is what I am saying, we must choose those who would not be carried away by power." Ned said. "How do we do this?" Elda asked. "We shall look into the future of the men whom we are going to choose and be sure that neither they nor their descendants would be carried away by power." Ned said in response. "That is a good thing." Demi concurred.
