Chapter 16: The Sea

979 Words
Jericho gazed out into the vast ocean, taking in the stillness of the sea. He couldn't help but be transported back to a time when he was a young boy, playing along the sea walls of Manila Bay. In those days, the bay was a different place. It was sparkling clean, with few vehicles or signs of pollution. Jericho would skip from rock to rock, reveling in the freedom of the open water. As he stood there, he remembered a special moment with his father. They had taken a break from swimming and were resting on the rocks. It was then that his father had given him a jade pendant, embedded in a golden frame. The pendant had been a symbol of his father's love and pride in him, and Jericho had treasured it ever since. Despite all the years that had passed, the memory of that day was still fresh in Jericho's mind. He had grown into a formidable man, known as "The Boss" to his associates. But in that moment, he was just a boy, filled with love and gratitude for his father. As he gazed out at the sea, he felt a deep connection to his past and the memories that he held so dear. As Jericho was lost in thought, he heard footsteps approaching him. He turned around to see Glyn, the marine biologist who had greeted him earlier. She came up to him and said, "Mr. Jericho, I just wanted to thank you for everything you've done for my family. I've been wanting to see you for a long time now." Jericho smiled and replied, "You don't have to thank me, Glyn. Your family is like my own. I just did what anyone would do in my shoes." Glyn chuckled and said, "You've always been humble, sir. But I know the truth. You've changed our lives, and I will always be grateful." Jericho looked out at the sea and sighed, "I remember when this bay was sparkling clean. My father and I used to swim here when I was a child. I still have this jade pendant he gave me, embedded in a gold frame. It reminds me of the good times." Glyn smiled and said, "It's amazing how a small gesture can mean so much. I hope you keep those memories close to your heart." Jericho nodded and the two of them stood in silence, watching the calm sea and admiring the beauty of nature. They were both lost in thought, and in that moment, everything else seemed to fade away. He used to wear that jade pendant every day, it is his lucky charm. His dad told him that it will bring him good fortune and protect him from harm. Suddenly, the calm sea changed and the waves grew bigger, reminding Jericho of the storms he faced in life. He has faced countless battles and faced numerous challenges, but he always emerged victorious. He couldn't help but to reflect on his past, how he became the person he is today. Jericho sat huddled on the bench, tears streaming down his face as he cried out for his dad. The wind howled and the rain beat down on him, but he was too scared and alone to move. He hugged the tarp tightly around him, trying to shield himself from the elements. The storm raged on and Jericho felt like he was all alone in the world. He couldn't help but wonder where his dad was and why he had left him. As the storm continued, Jericho's sobs turned into shivers as he felt the chill of the rain seeping through the tarp. He felt lost and afraid, with no one to turn to. But in the depths of his despair, he remembered the jade pendant his dad had given him. He reached into his pocket and clutched it tightly, taking comfort in its smooth surface. In that moment, Jericho made a vow to himself that he would never feel that vulnerable and alone again. He would become someone who could protect himself and others, no matter what the cost. And from that moment on, he set out on a path to fulfill that promise. Jericho, on the other hand, couldn't shake off the feeling that there is more to that dark cloud. He knows that it's not just a simple weather phenomenon, but he decided to keep his suspicions to himself for now. As he joined the rest of the team in the main hall, he noticed Glyn still trying to get his attention. He couldn't help but to feel a little bit uncomfortable with the attention she's giving him. He wondered if there is something more to her admiration of him. Liz, being the sharp-eyed one, noticed the situation and pulled Jericho aside. "You should be careful with that girl," she warned. "She might have more than just admiration in her eyes." Jericho nodded, acknowledging the warning. But at the same time, he also couldn't help but to feel a little bit intrigued by Glyn. He knew that he needed to be extra cautious around her. As they continued their journey, the dark cloud slowly faded away, leaving behind a peaceful sea once again. But Jericho couldn't shake off the feeling of unease. He knew that the journey ahead would not be as calm as the sea they are sailing on. As Jericho and Liz continued their conversation, Daine was engaged in a casual chat with Tenshi. Despite being focused on her own conversation, Daine couldn't help but still take in the surroundings and she noticed Glyn's persistent attempts to get close to Jericho. However, she decided to keep it to herself and not say anything. Tenshi, on the other hand, seemed oblivious to the situation. He was too focused on chomping down the food on his plate, enjoying every bite.
