From the tone of the homeroom teacher, Sophia Rivers knew she had been placed in the school's elite class. She also understood the teacher's hostility towards her—getting into this class wasn't just about good grades. There were fifty students in the elite class, each one a high achiever, not only from wealthy families but also exceptionally good-looking—handsome boys and beautiful girls. Sophia was the only one from an ordinary background to get in, and that made the teacher jealous of her good fortune.
Sophia followed the teacher down the hallway, receiving many admiring and jealous looks. She knew she was beautiful. She remembered when she first moved in with Alexander King after leaving the orphanage. The house staff had all turned their attention to her, calling her a little angel, and showering her with praise. But Alexander's gaze had turned cold, and from that moment on, no one dared approach her too closely. No one looked at her with admiring eyes anymore, because of his strong possessiveness. The staff didn’t want to be on the receiving end of his cold stare. Now, those burning gazes were hard for her to get used to.
"She's so beautiful, like a fairy. I wonder which class she's in?" a sunny boy said.
"Are you stupid? Can’t you see she's following that arrogant teacher? She's in the elite class." A voice filled with disdain came from behind him.
"Ugh, look at her clothes. She’s obviously from a poor family. What right does she have to be in the same class as Andrew Ni, it's infuriating!" a coquettish voice called out, causing the male onlookers to become restless.
"She looks a thousand times better than you, humph, she's got more grace too," a boy retorted angrily.
"Dragon, he's bullying her, saying she looks ugly. Hmph, I won't let him get away with it." The girl stomped her foot and threw a playful tantrum at her admirer.
"Okay... darling, don’t be upset. Seeing you cry hurts my heart. I’ll have someone take care of him." The boy named "Dragon" said, feigning concern to please his love.
"What kind of person are you? Don’t you have a mirror at home? You look like a clown, it’s terrifying." Hearing her insult the girl he had admired, the boy snapped.
"Hey, what do you mean by that? You want to die or something?" To salvage his pride in front of his love, Dragon arrogantly responded. The crowd, bored, dispersed. "Come back here. Do you know who I am? Dare to talk back to me? You’re asking for it."
"Useless, wasting my time with your silly expressions," the girl huffed, fuming as she walked away.
Sophia followed the teacher to the classroom. Seeing that the teacher didn’t plan to introduce her, she decided to speak up. "Hello everyone, I’m the new transfer student, Sophia Rivers. It’s nice to meet you all. I look forward to getting to know you."
The class was taken aback by her soft and melodious voice, feeling as if a gentle breeze had passed by.
Resting his head on his desk, Andrew Ni heard the collective gasp and slowly looked up. It was her—the girl he had fallen for at first sight. After some reflection, he admitted he had fallen for her. Turns out, she was the new transfer student. It seemed like fate.
The teacher, noticing her popularity, spoke coldly, "You, go sit in the corner at the back." Then, she began the lesson.
"Teacher, isn't this a bit too inhumane? You’re making the beautiful girl sit next to the trash pile?" a boy protested loudly.
"Sophia, you can sit here," Andrew Ni said, pointing to the seat next to him. Everyone stared at him in disbelief. He was notorious for disliking girls, and had sent away many who tried to sit next to him. But now, he was inviting the new girl to sit with him. Seeing that even Andrew was helping her, the teacher felt she couldn't afford to upset him and said, "Go ahead, sit next to Andrew."
Since Andrew sat at the back of the classroom, Sophia was reluctant to sit so far back. She also remembered Alexander’s strict instructions not to get within ten steps of any boy other than him. She hesitated.
At that moment, a student sitting in the second row, Lisa, noticed Sophia’s dilemma and said, "You can sit next to me." Sophia smiled gratefully and sat beside her. The atmosphere in the class immediately became a little strange.
