A thousand thoughts raced through my mind as I casually, maybe too casually, strolled down the hospital hallway in a loose gown. An IV pole rattled beside me while fluid seeped steadily into my veins.
The doctor said it was nothing serious, just an exhaustion induced collapse. I was to be discharged the same day, which was lucky for me. But it was taking too damn long. Every moment dragged, and every fleeting instant, Theo’s face flashed through my head like some cruel movie reel I could not shut off. His tears. His screams. Those little arms reaching for me while he was being taken away by that son of a b***h, as I would very much like to call him.
