Episode 5: “The Worst Truth”

269 Words
The evening air was heavy. Lia sat curled on the couch, her face buried in her knees, silent tears streaming. The door opened and Tipsy’s cheerful voice filled the apartment. “I’m back! Lia? You home?” But instead of laughter, she heard muffled sobs. Tipsy’s smile faded as she rushed in. “Lia, what happened? Your voice… you’re shaking.” Lia lifted her head, her eyes swollen red. She forced a bitter laugh. “Everything’s fine. Except… my boyfriend is rental. That’s the worst part.” Tipsy blinked, confused. “Wait—you mean… Ethan?” Lia’s voice cracked. “He didn’t love me. Not even a little. He was only doing his job.” Tipsy froze, the weight of those words sinking in. She had thought the app was just a silly idea, a fun experiment. But now she saw the pain written all over Lia’s face. And for the first time, Tipsy realized the truth — this wasn’t Ethan’s fault. It wasn’t even the app’s fault. It was Lia’s. Because she had believed she needed a man to fix her loneliness. She had mistaken desire for love. She had given her heart to someone who was never hers to begin with. Tipsy tried every day to cheer her up. She made jokes, cooked snacks, dragged her out for walks. But Lia stayed quiet, sinking deeper into silence. Her world felt emptier with each passing day. Not because Ethan was gone… but because she finally understood: She didn’t need just a man. She needed love. Real love. And now, she didn’t know if she’d ever find it.
