Chapter 38: Backup Plan
(Amelia's POV)
Mila’s voice dripped with mockery as she leaned against the counter in the healing chamber, her smirk wide and cruel.
“Surprised to see you this calm, Amelia,” she began, her tone deliberately cutting. “After all, Elena Richardson’s now gracing us with her elevated presence. That must be… awkward. You know, considering her history with Dominic.”
I could feel the weight of her words and their intended sting, but I refused to let them land. Instead, I continued sorting the dried herbs into their tiny labeled boxes.
My focus remained sharp, my hands moving with precision as I organized the pile of lavender satchels. Their calming aroma soothed me and, surprisingly, even calmed my wolf, Cora, who usually grew restless under such tension.
