The silence after Dominic stormed out was suffocating. His presence lingered in the air, like a weight pressing down on us. The usual sounds of the healing center—clinking herbs, whispered instructions, hurried footsteps—had vanished. It felt like the entire building was holding its breath.
I sat still, pretending to focus on sorting herbs even as my shaking hands betrayed me. My eyes darted around. No one spoke. No one moved unnecessarily. Nobody wanted to be the first to break the quiet. Dominic’s anger was not something you wanted to attract. And it wasn’t just fear of him. Fear of whispers reaching the wrong ears was even worse.
As cracked as the silence seemed in the room, the Thorn Pack territory wasn’t silent at all.
