Chapter 76: Desperate Measures
(Dominic's POV)
The soft glow of my phone lit up the desk once again. My eyes snapped to it instinctively, the clawing hope in my chest almost immediate. My fingers hovered above the screen as my heart thumped a steady, desperate rhythm in my ears.
This has to be her, I thought. Maybe she...
I swiped the screen fast, praying as though words from her would appear like magic.
"Territory alert," the screen read.
I stared at the words as if by sheer willpower, they’d change into something else. My jaw tightened, and my fingers curled around the edge of the phone so hard that the plastic let out a small creak. The disappointment sank into me, heavy and unforgiving, drowning out the faint hope I’d allowed to surface.
