Chapter 3: Be My Luna

Chapter 3: Be My Luna (Amelia's POV) I needed to get away from his piercing gaze. “I... I need some water,” I muttered, my voice barely steady. Without waiting for a response, I slid off the edge of the bed. My legs felt like jelly as I stood, but I forced them to support me. I took slow steps toward the window, putting as much distance between myself and Alexander as I could without running. My body felt hot, like his eyes were still on me, watching every single move I made. The bedroom was massive. Floor-to-ceiling windows lined one wall, letting in rays of sunlight that made the space feel open and suffocating at the same time. The room itself smelled faintly of him—cool cedar and hints of peppermint. The scent made my wolf Cora purr happily in the back of my mind, but I wasn’t in the mood to entertain her smug satisfaction. I reached for the glass pitcher on a nearby table and poured myself water with shaky hands. The coolness of the glass did little to calm me. Raising it to my lips, I took a long sip, desperate for something to steady the whirlwind of thoughts in my head. I needed to figure this out. I began pacing near the windows, the plush carpet soft under my bare feet. My thoughts were spinning faster and faster, making my head ache. Cora whimpered anxiously, picking up on my distress. This wasn’t just a personal mistake anymore. What I had done—my drunken bite—was about more than me. It could ripple out, affecting both my pack and his. I thought back to the gossip I’d overheard at the healing center just last week. Sarah, one of the older nurses, had been chatting as we restocked supplies. Her voice carried a mix of awe and envy as she spoke about Alexander. “Did you hear?” she’d said to one of the younger helpers. “The Alpha of the Western Pack is planning to marry off his daughter to Alexander. They’ve been negotiating for months. She’s beautiful, you know, and her bloodline is impeccable.” The younger nurse had sighed dreamily. “Of course. Only someone perfect would ever stand a chance with him.” It hadn’t stopped there. Several smaller packs from the East had their eyes on aligning with Alexander through marriage. Even the Northern Packs—my home territory—had been rumored to be quietly competing for his favor. And now, here I was. The adopted daughter of a Gamma from the North—someone with zero political influence—having bitten the Alpha King of the East. Was I insane? I clenched my hands into fists at my sides, stopping my frantic pacing for a moment. This could be disastrous. If Alexander lost even one potential alliance over this... If the Northern Territory viewed my bite as some kind of insult to his status... The weight of it all hit me hard. I was nobody. Adopted. Rankless. Barely surviving as a healer in a small pack treatment center. And yet somehow, through sheer stupidity, I might’ve managed to disrupt political relationships Alexander had likely spent years building. The thought made my chest tighten painfully. Cora was quiet now, offering no help as usual. I thought about asking for help. Maybe William Winters—my adoptive father—could give me advice. He was Thorn Pack's Gamma, after all. He’d know how to navigate messy pack relations better than I ever could. But then I hesitated. William and Margaret had been distant lately. Their relationship was strained, and I hadn’t seen him in almost a year. Margaret would be no help either. She’d already made it clear over the years that she had no interest in involving herself in my life. I was alone in this. “Your thoughts are very loud, little healer,” Alexander’s deep, commanding voice cut through my spiral like a blade. I jumped, startled, and turned to find him watching me. He was still standing near the bed but no longer leaning casually like before. His posture was straight, his broad shoulders giving him an air of absolute authority. But it wasn’t just his stance that caught my attention—it was his eyes. Those green eyes... They pinned me in place, calm yet unreadable. Like he saw straight through me. I opened my mouth, trying to say something. Anything. But no words came out. He stepped toward me, each movement deliberate. The tension in the room seemed to thicken with every step he took. His cedar-and-peppermint scent grew stronger, wrapping around me like an invisible cocoon. Despite my rising panic, Cora purred softly in my mind. “Stop it,” I hissed at her internally, but she ignored me completely. Alexander stopped just a few inches away. The space between us was charged, almost crackling with an unspoken tension I didn’t know how to handle. “I have a solution,” he said simply. My stomach flipped. The words were straightforward, but the weight of them hit me like a wave. I didn’t respond. I couldn’t. I just stared up at him, blinking slowly, my brain struggling to keep up. “We’ll have a formal wedding,” he continued, his voice steady and deliberate. “A proper marking ceremony.” I gasped softly, my chest tightening even more. His green eyes didn’t waver as he delivered the final blow. “You’ll become my Luna.” I couldn’t breathe. The full meaning of his words slammed into me like a freight train. Marriage? Mating? I stumbled back instinctively, needing some space to think. My back hit the edge of the bed, and I sank onto it without even realizing what I was doing. “M-mating?” I stammered, my voice shaky and disbelieving. My head swirled with confusion. “With you?” Alexander followed me, closing the small gap I’d managed to create. He stood over me, his shadow falling across my trembling frame. His expression remained calm, his movements controlled, but there was an intensity in his gaze that made my skin tingle. “Yes.” The word was firm, unwavering, as though there were no other possible alternative. My hands gripped the edge of the bed, my knuckles turning white as I struggled to process what he was saying. “This will prevent any challenges to my authority,” he explained, his tone now calm and measured, as if he were laying out a strategy. “A proper mating ensures no one questions the alliance between Thorn Pack and Stone Pack.” His words were clinical, practical even. Like this was just some kind of transaction, not the massive, life-altering decision it actually was. Still, I could sense something deeper in his tone. Something heavier. He wasn’t suggesting this lightly. “And,” he added, taking a step closer, “it protects both our packs’ interests. Any speculation about our bond dissipates the moment it’s formalized.” I stared up at him, completely overwhelmed. My heart was pounding in my chest so loud I was surprised he couldn’t hear it. Cora, however, was utterly overjoyed. She howled in delight, her excitement almost drowning out my own thoughts. Mate, mate, mate! she chanted, practically vibrating with happiness. My lips parted, but no words came out. I was trapped between my wolf’s glee and the sharp disbelief stabbing through me. Was this real? Had I actually just gone from being the rejected wallflower of Dominic Wilde’s life to being offered the chance to become Luna of the most powerful Alpha in the Eastern Region? Just hours ago, I had been drowning in heartbreak. Years of silent devotion to Dominic had shattered when he dismissed me as worthless. And now... this? I couldn’t make sense of it. “To be precise, little healer,” Alexander’s voice broke into my chaotic thoughts, “I ask you to be my Luna.”
