THE LOVE BEHIND MY SCARS
Chapter Two: The Girl Who Saw Beyond His Smile
Miracle never expected a single conversation to stay in his mind for so long.
But the next morning, before his alarm even rang, he woke up thinking about Amara's words.
“You already are somebody.”
He stared at the ceiling.
Why did those simple words matter so much?
Maybe because nobody had said them to him that way before.
People always told him what he needed to become.
Become successful.
Become responsible.
Become rich.
Make your family proud.
Work harder.
Do better.
But Amara had said something different.
She made him feel like his worth wasn't waiting somewhere in the future.
Maybe that was why he couldn't stop thinking about her.
Miracle quickly got out of bed.
“Stop thinking about her,” he told himself.
Then he smiled.
“She's just a friend.”
He prepared for school and left home.
When he arrived, Daniel was already standing outside the classroom.
The moment Daniel saw him, he smiled.
“You're smiling.”
Miracle frowned.
“So?”
“You're never this happy on a Monday.”
“Maybe I'm just having a good morning.”
Daniel folded his arms.
“Or maybe someone gave you a good morning.”
Miracle shook his head.
“Don't start.”
Daniel laughed.
“I didn't even mention her name.”
“You didn't have to.”
Before Daniel could answer, Amara walked past them.
“Good morning, Miracle.”
Miracle smiled.
“Good morning.”
Daniel watched her walk away.
Then he turned slowly toward Miracle.
Miracle sighed.
“Don't.”
Daniel laughed loudly.
“I didn't say anything!”
“You were about to.”
“I was only going to say good morning.”
Miracle shook his head and entered the classroom.
He tried to focus on his lessons, but his mind kept wandering.
Amara was sitting a few seats away.
She was taking notes carefully.
Every now and then, she looked up and smiled when their eyes met.
Miracle couldn't explain it.
He simply enjoyed being around her.
During break, Amara approached him.
“Miracle.”
He looked up.
“Yes?”
“Are you free after school?”
“Why?”
“I need help with something.”
“What kind of help?”
She smiled.
“Just come and find out.”
Miracle laughed.
“That's suspicious.”
“Are you afraid?”
“No.”
“Then come.”
She walked away.
Daniel appeared beside him.
“What did she want?”
“I don't know.”
Daniel raised an eyebrow.
“She invited you somewhere and you don't know?”
“She's asking for help with something.”
Daniel smiled.
“Exactly.”
Miracle rolled his eyes.
“You think everything is about love.”
“No,” Daniel said. “I think you're beginning to like her.”
Miracle didn't answer.
Because maybe Daniel was right.
After school, Miracle found Amara waiting near the school gate.
She was holding several books.
“You came.”
“I said I would.”
They started walking.
Amara explained that she had been struggling with one of her subjects and wanted Miracle's help.
They found a quiet place and began studying.
At first, everything was normal.
They discussed questions, laughed over mistakes, and argued about answers.
Then Amara suddenly became quiet.
Miracle noticed.
“What's wrong?”
“Nothing.”
“You don't look fine.”
She looked away.
“Sometimes people say nothing is wrong because they don't want to explain.”
Miracle smiled gently.
“I'm not people.”
Amara looked at him.
For several seconds, neither spoke.
Finally, she sighed.
“My parents argue a lot.”
Miracle's smile disappeared.
“I’m sorry.”
“They don't know how much it affects me.”
She looked down at her hands.
“Sometimes I come to school smiling, but inside I'm exhausted.”
Miracle understood.
He remembered how many times he had done the same thing.
Smiling while hurting.
Pretending everything was fine.
He didn't give her a long speech.
He simply said,
“You don't always have to be strong.”
Amara looked at him.
“You told me that?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because I know what it feels like to pretend.”
For the first time, Amara's eyes became wet.
She quickly looked away.
“Thank you.”
Miracle smiled.
“You're welcome.”
That afternoon changed something between them.
They were no longer just classmates.
They had shared something real.
Something painful.
Something they both understood.
As they walked home, Amara said, “Promise me something.”
“What?”
“Don't stop chasing your dreams because of one failure.”
Miracle smiled.
“I won't.”
“And don't let anyone make you believe you're not good enough.”
“I won't.”
She smiled.
“Good.”
Miracle looked at her.
“Can I ask you something?”
“Yes.”
“Why do you care so much about my dreams?”
Amara became quiet.
Then she smiled.
“Because I think you have something special.”
Miracle laughed nervously.
“What's that?”
“Determination.”
She continued walking.
Miracle followed.
For the rest of the journey, neither said much.
But both were smiling.
Days became weeks.
Miracle and Amara grew closer.
They studied together.
They encouraged each other.
They shared secrets.
They talked about their families and dreams.
Sometimes, they argued over the smallest things.
Sometimes, they laughed until their stomachs hurt.
Daniel often complained that Miracle was no longer available because Amara had taken all his time.
But Miracle didn't mind.
For the first time in a long time, he felt understood.
Amara didn't see him as the boy who failed an examination.
She saw him as the boy who was still trying.
And Miracle didn't see Amara as just the beautiful girl who had entered his life.
He saw her as someone carrying her own battles.
Someone who needed encouragement too.
One evening, they sat beneath the same tree where they had first talked.
The sun was slowly disappearing.
Amara looked at Miracle.
“Do you still think you're not good enough?”
Miracle thought about it.
“Sometimes.”
She smiled.
“Then I'll remind you until you believe otherwise.”
Miracle looked at her.
There was something in his chest he couldn't explain.
He wanted to tell her how much her presence meant to him.
But he was afraid.
Afraid that saying too much would change everything.
So he simply smiled.
“Thank you, Amara.”
She smiled back.
“You're welcome.”
Neither of them realized that something beautiful was beginning.
Love rarely announces itself.
Sometimes it arrives quietly.
Sometimes it begins with a conversation.
Sometimes it begins with friendship.
And sometimes, it begins when two broken people discover that they can make each other feel whole.
Miracle didn't know where his journey with Amara would lead.
But for the first time, he wasn't afraid of the future.
He had a dream to chase.
A friend who believed in him.
And a heart that was slowly learning how to love.
But every beautiful beginning carries a warning.
Miracle just didn't know it yet.
The same heart that was beginning to heal would one day carry scars.
And the love that made him believe in tomorrow would eventually become one of the greatest tests of his life.
