THE LOVE BEHIND MY SCARS
Chapter Six: The Secret That Changed Everything
The hardest thing about trusting someone is not believing them when everything is perfect.
It is believing them when something gives you a reason to doubt.
Miracle learned that lesson the morning he received Nathan's message.
He had barely entered the classroom when his phone vibrated.
He looked at the screen.
Unknown Number:
Ask Amara about last year.
Miracle stared at the message.
His heart began beating faster.
He read it again.
Then another message appeared.
She hasn't told you everything.
Miracle locked his phone immediately.
He looked toward Amara.
She was sitting at her desk, smiling while talking to Sophia.
For a moment, he considered walking over and asking her.
But he stopped himself.
He remembered what they had promised each other.
Trust. Honesty. Patience.
He couldn't allow a message from an unknown number to destroy that.
He put his phone away.
“Good morning, Miracle.”
He looked up.
Amara was standing beside him.
“Good morning.”
She smiled.
“You look worried.”
“I'm fine.”
She stared at him.
“You're lying.”
Miracle forced a smile.
“I'm just tired.”
Amara didn't look convinced.
But she didn't pressure him.
“Okay. If you need me, I'm here.”
She walked away.
Those words made Miracle feel even worse.
He wanted to tell her.
But he was afraid of what her answer might be.
Throughout the morning, Miracle struggled to concentrate.
The teacher's voice became background noise.
His mind kept returning to the message.
She hasn't told you everything.
What happened last year?
Why was Nathan so determined to separate them?
And why did he seem to know something Amara didn't want Miracle to know?
At break time, Miracle went to the tree alone.
He sat down and stared at the ground.
A few minutes later, Amara found him.
“I knew I'd find you here.”
Miracle looked up.
“You know me too well.”
She smiled.
“That's because I pay attention.”
She sat beside him.
For several seconds, neither spoke.
Then Amara asked softly,
“What's really wrong?”
Miracle took a deep breath.
He pulled out his phone.
“I received another message.”
She looked at the screen.
Her expression changed as she read it.
“Where did you get this?”
“Unknown number.”
She became silent.
“Amara?”
She looked away.
“I don't know what he wants.”
“Is it Nathan?”
“I think so.”
Miracle watched her carefully.
“Then tell me the truth.”
She looked at him.
“What truth?”
“About last year.”
Her face went pale.
For a few seconds, she said nothing.
That silence hurt Miracle more than the message.
“You know what he's talking about.”
Amara lowered her head.
“Yes.”
Miracle's heart sank.
“What happened?”
She took a deep breath.
“I was going through a difficult time.”
“What kind of difficult time?”
“My parents were having serious problems at home. I couldn't concentrate on school. I stopped talking to almost everyone.”
Miracle listened.
“Nathan was there for me.”
He nodded slowly.
“I already knew that.”
“But there is something I never told you.”
Miracle's chest tightened.
“What?”
Amara looked into his eyes.
“During that period, Nathan helped me with something very important.”
“What?”
“I had planned to run away from home.”
Miracle froze.
“What?”
“I was tired of everything. My parents were always fighting. I felt like nobody cared about how I felt.”
Her voice trembled.
“Nathan found me that night.”
Miracle didn't interrupt.
“He convinced me to go back home. He stayed with me until I calmed down.”
Miracle finally understood why Nathan believed he had a special place in her life.
“But why didn't you tell me?”
“Because I was ashamed.”
“Amara…”
“I didn't want you to look at me differently.”
Miracle shook his head.
“I wouldn't.”
She wiped her eyes.
“I thought if you knew how broken I felt back then, you'd think I was weak.”
Miracle moved closer.
“Amara, being broken doesn't make you weak.”
She looked at him.
“Then what does it make me?”
“Human.”
Tears rolled down her cheeks.
Miracle continued.
“Everyone has moments when they feel like they can't continue. What matters is that you kept going.”
She looked down.
“I wish I had told you earlier.”
“Why didn't you?”
“Because I was afraid.”
Miracle sighed.
“I don't want you to be afraid of telling me the truth.”
“I know.”
He reached for her hand.
“But there's something else.”
Amara looked at him.
“What?”
“Why is Nathan using this against you?”
She became quiet.
“Because after that night, he started believing I owed him something.”
“Something?”
“He wanted me to be with him.”
Miracle's expression hardened.
“And when you refused?”
“He became angry.”
Amara looked toward the school building.
“He reminded me of everything he had done for me. He said I wouldn't have survived that period without him.”
Miracle shook his head.
“That isn't love.”
“I know.”
“He helped you because he cared, but that doesn't give him ownership over you.”
Amara nodded.
“I told him that.”
“And?”
“He didn't accept it.”
Silence settled between them.
Miracle looked at the ground.
For the first time, he understood that Nathan wasn't simply jealous.
He was holding onto the past.
And he wanted Amara to feel guilty for moving forward.
“I'm sorry,” Miracle said.
Amara looked surprised.
“For what?”
“For making you feel like you had to hide your past from me.”
She shook her head.
“You didn't.”
“I still should have made you feel safe enough to tell me.”
She smiled through her tears.
“You do now.”
Miracle squeezed her hand.
“I want you to remember something.”
“What?”
“Your past is part of your story, but it isn't your identity.”
Amara smiled.
“Where did you learn to speak like that?”
“I've been learning.”
They laughed softly.
For a moment, the heaviness disappeared.
But neither of them noticed Nathan standing far away.
He had watched them from a distance.
And he could tell that his plan had failed.
He had wanted Miracle to doubt Amara.
Instead, the truth had brought them closer.
Nathan clenched his fists.
“This isn't finished.”
He walked away.
That afternoon, Miracle went home with a different understanding of love.
He had once believed love was simply about happiness.
Now he understood that real love also meant accepting someone's past.
It meant listening to painful stories without using them as weapons.
It meant understanding that the person you love had a life before you arrived.
And sometimes, that life contained wounds you could never completely see.
That evening, Miracle sat at his desk.
He opened his notebook and wrote:
Everyone carries a story.
He paused.
Then continued.
Some people hide their pain behind smiles. Others hide it behind anger. But healing begins when we finally find someone we can trust with the truth.
He closed the notebook.
His phone vibrated.
It was Amara.
“Thank you for listening to me today.”
Miracle replied:
“You never have to be ashamed of your past with me.”
A few seconds later, another message arrived.
“I love you.”
Miracle smiled.
“I love you too.”
He put his phone down.
But then another notification appeared.
Unknown number.
Miracle hesitated before opening it.
This time, there was no message.
There was a photograph.
His heart stopped.
It showed Amara standing beside a man he didn't recognize.
The photograph looked recent.
And underneath it was a short sentence:
“You think you know her now?”
Miracle stared at the screen.
His smile disappeared.
He zoomed in on the photograph.
There was something strange about it.
The man's face was partly hidden.
But Miracle recognized the location.
It was outside a place Amara had told him she had never visited.
His mind began racing.
Was Amara hiding another secret?
Or was someone trying to make him believe she was?
Miracle didn't know.
But he knew one thing.
He couldn't accuse her without knowing the truth.
The next morning, he decided to ask her directly.
He found her near the school gate.
“Amara.”
She turned and smiled.
“Good morning.”
Miracle looked at her seriously.
“I need to ask you something.”
Her smile faded.
“What is it?”
He showed her the photograph.
Amara stared at it.
Her face suddenly changed.
Miracle noticed immediately.
“You know this place.”
She didn't answer.
“Amara?”
She finally looked at him.
“I can explain.”
Miracle closed his eyes for a moment.
Those words again.
I can explain.
He didn't want to hear them.
He wanted the truth.
“Then explain.”
Amara opened her mouth.
But before she could speak, the school bell rang.
Students began rushing past them.
She looked at Miracle.
“Please. Not here.”
He nodded.
“Okay.”
But as they walked into the school, Miracle noticed someone standing across the road.
Nathan.
He was smiling.
And in his hand was the same photograph.
Miracle's heart sank.
Nathan had taken the picture.
But why?
What was he trying to hide?
And what exactly had happened at that place?
Miracle looked at Amara.
For the first time, he realized that the truth he had been searching for might be much bigger than he expected.
He had promised himself that he would never let fear control him.
Now he had to prove it.
Because sometimes, the hardest part of loving someone isn't staying when everything is beautiful.
It is staying long enough to discover the truth when everything begins to fall apart.
