THE LOVE BEHIND MY SCARS
Chapter Three: When the Heart Speaks
Sometimes, the heart knows what the mind is still afraid to admit.
Miracle discovered that truth on a quiet Monday morning.
He stood in front of the mirror, adjusting his school uniform while trying to understand why he was smiling.
Nothing unusual had happened.
He had no good news.
His examination result had not changed.
His dreams were still far away.
Yet he was happy.
And he knew exactly why.
Amara.
Miracle shook his head and laughed at himself.
“Why am I thinking about her this early?”
He picked up his bag and left his room.
As he walked to school, he tried to focus on his plans. He wanted to study harder, improve his grades, and become successful. He had promised his mother that failure would not stop him.
But every few minutes, his mind returned to Amara.
Her smile.
Her voice.
The way she always encouraged him.
The way she made him believe that he was capable of becoming the person he dreamed of being.
When Miracle reached the school gate, Daniel was already waiting.
Daniel looked at him for a few seconds before smiling.
“You're doing it again.”
Miracle frowned.
“Doing what?”
“Smiling.”
“So?”
“You've been smiling too much lately.”
Miracle laughed.
“Maybe I'm just happy.”
Daniel folded his arms.
“Let me guess. Amara?”
Miracle shook his head.
“You think about her too much.”
Daniel laughed.
“And you talk about her too much.”
“I don't talk about her.”
“You don't have to. Your face does it for you.”
Before Miracle could respond, a familiar voice interrupted them.
“Good morning.”
Miracle turned.
Amara stood there with her books in her arms.
His face immediately brightened.
“Good morning, Amara.”
Daniel looked at both of them and smiled.
“I suddenly remembered I have something important to do.”
Miracle rolled his eyes.
“Daniel, don't start.”
Daniel laughed as he walked away.
Amara watched him leave.
“Your friend is funny.”
“He's troublesome.”
“Maybe he's just happy for you.”
Miracle looked at her.
“Happy for me?”
Amara smiled.
“You look happier than before.”
Miracle didn't know what to say.
She was right.
Since she had entered his life, something had changed.
He still had problems.
He still worried about his future.
He still remembered the pain of failing his examination.
But he no longer felt like he was carrying everything alone.
They walked into the classroom together.
During the first lesson, Miracle tried his best to concentrate.
He really did.
But every now and then, he looked toward Amara.
She was writing notes carefully.
Once, she looked up and caught him staring.
She smiled.
Miracle quickly looked away.
She laughed quietly.
At break time, Amara walked toward him.
“You've been looking at me.”
Miracle pretended to be confused.
“Me?”
“Yes, you.”
“I wasn't.”
“You were.”
Miracle smiled.
“Maybe I was thinking.”
“Thinking about what?”
He paused.
“You.”
Amara's cheeks became slightly red.
“You're becoming bold.”
Miracle laughed.
“Maybe I'm learning from you.”
She shook her head, smiling.
“Come.”
“Where?”
“Our tree.”
They walked to the large tree behind the classroom.
It had become their favorite place.
There, away from the noise of the other students, they could talk freely.
Amara sat down and opened her notebook.
Miracle watched her.
“You're quiet today.”
“I'm thinking about my future.”
Miracle smiled.
“Again?”
“Is that a bad thing?”
“No. I think about mine too.”
“What do you want?”
Miracle looked into the distance.
“I want to become successful.”
“That isn't new.”
“I know.”
He smiled.
“But I mean something bigger than money.”
Amara closed her notebook.
“Tell me.”
“I want to help my family. I want to build something that people will remember. I want to become someone who can look back at his struggles and say, ‘I didn't let them defeat me.’”
Amara listened carefully.
“And I want to be happy.”
She smiled.
“That's important.”
“What about you?”
She became quiet.
“I want to become someone my younger self would be proud of.”
Miracle smiled.
“You always say that.”
“Because it matters to me.”
He looked at her.
“Why?”
Amara looked down at her hands.
“Because sometimes, life makes you feel like you're not enough.”
Miracle understood immediately.
“I know that feeling.”
She looked at him.
“You still think about your examination result?”
“Sometimes.”
“Does it still hurt?”
He nodded.
“A little.”
Amara smiled gently.
“Then use the pain.”
Miracle looked confused.
“Use it?”
“Yes. Let it remind you why you must keep going.”
He remained silent.
She continued.
“Failure can either become the reason you stop or the reason you become stronger.”
Miracle looked at her.
“You really believe that?”
“I do.”
“Why?”
“Because you're still here.”
Her answer was simple.
But it touched him deeply.
Miracle had spent so much time thinking about what he had lost that he had forgotten what he still had.
He still had his dreams.
He still had his family.
He still had another opportunity.
And now, he had someone who believed in him.
“Thank you,” he said.
Amara smiled.
“For what?”
“For always reminding me that I can do better.”
She looked at him.
“You don't need me to believe in you forever.”
“Why?”
“Because one day, I want you to believe in yourself so strongly that nobody can convince you otherwise.”
Miracle smiled.
“I'll try.”
“Don't try.”
She looked directly into his eyes.
“Do it.”
They both laughed.
For a moment, everything felt perfect.
But life rarely leaves happiness untouched for long.
After school, Miracle and Amara walked home together.
The road was quiet, and the evening breeze moved gently through the trees.
They talked about their dreams.
They talked about their families.
They talked about the future.
Then Amara suddenly asked a question.
“Miracle?”
“Yes?”
“Are you afraid of love?”
He stopped walking for a moment.
“Why are you asking?”
“Just answer.”
Miracle thought about it.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because love can hurt.”
Amara looked down.
“You've never been in love before.”
“No.”
“Then how do you know?”
“I've watched people I know love each other and still hurt each other.”
She nodded.
“I understand.”
“What about you?”
Amara was quiet.
Then she said, “I'm afraid of being loved by someone who doesn't understand me.”
Miracle looked at her.
“I'd never want you to feel that way.”
She smiled.
“You can't promise that.”
“Why?”
“Because nobody knows what the future will bring.”
Miracle thought about her words.
She was right.
Nobody could promise that life would always be perfect.
Nobody could promise there would never be arguments.
Nobody could promise there would never be pain.
But maybe love wasn't about promising perfection.
Maybe it was about promising to be honest.
To communicate.
To forgive.
To keep trying.
They continued walking.
When they reached the place where they normally separated, Amara stopped.
“Goodnight, Miracle.”
“Goodnight.”
She took a few steps, then turned around.
“Miracle?”
“Yes?”
“I'm glad I met you.”
He smiled.
“I'm glad I met you too.”
She walked away.
Miracle stood there for a moment, watching her disappear.
His heart was beating faster than normal.
He finally admitted what he had been trying to hide.
He was falling in love with her.
Not because she was beautiful.
Not because she made him smile.
But because she believed in him when he struggled to believe in himself.
That night, Miracle sat at his desk and opened his notebook.
He wrote:
Some people enter your life and make you want to become better.
He paused.
Then he added:
Amara is one of those people.
He stared at the words for a while before closing the notebook.
His phone vibrated.
A message from Amara.
Goodnight. Keep chasing your dreams.
Miracle smiled.
He replied:
I will. You keep chasing yours too.
He placed his phone beside his bed and lay down.
For the first time in a long time, he felt peaceful.
But while Miracle was falling asleep with a smile on his face, someone else was awake.
Nathan.
He sat alone in his room, staring at an old photograph.
The photograph showed him and Amara from months before.
They had once been close.
Nathan had hoped their friendship would become something more.
He had told Amara how he felt.
She had rejected him.
He had pretended to accept it.
But he never truly did.
And now, seeing her growing closer to Miracle had brought all those feelings back.
Nathan stared at the photograph.
“She forgot me that easily?”
His fingers tightened around the picture.
“No.”
He placed it on the table.
“I won't let him take her from me.”
The next morning, Miracle arrived at school with a smile.
He didn't notice Nathan standing at the end of the hallway.
He didn't see the anger in his eyes.
He didn't know that Nathan had already begun planning how to separate him from Amara.
Miracle only saw Amara.
She smiled when she saw him.
And for a moment, nothing else mattered.
He walked toward her.
“Good morning.”
“Good morning.”
She smiled.
He smiled back.
Neither of them knew that their happiness had already attracted the attention of someone who wanted to destroy it.
Neither knew that love was about to be tested.
And neither knew that the first scar in their beautiful story was already waiting to be created.
For now, however, Miracle held on to one simple thought:
Love had found him when he needed hope the most.
He only hoped it would not become the reason he lost it.
