THE LOVE BEHIND MY SCARS
Chapter Ten: The Person Behind the Secret
At exactly 5:00 p.m., Miracle stood outside the abandoned building, wondering if he had made the biggest mistake of his life.
The place was almost empty.
The windows were broken, the walls were old, and the silence around the building felt unnatural.
Miracle looked at his phone.
5:01 p.m.
Nobody was there.
He took a step forward.
“Hello?”
No answer.
He turned around.
Nothing.
For a moment, he considered leaving.
Then he heard footsteps behind him.
Miracle froze.
A voice spoke softly.
“You actually came.”
Miracle turned.
A woman stood several feet away.
He didn't recognize her.
“Who are you?”
She looked at him carefully.
“My name doesn't matter.”
“It matters to me.”
She sighed.
“I'm here because I know what happened that night.”
Miracle's heart began racing.
“The accident?”
She nodded.
“Yes.”
“Then tell me everything.”
The woman looked around nervously.
“Someone is watching us.”
“Who?”
“I don't know.”
“You're the one who asked me to come.”
“I know.”
“Then why are you afraid?”
She hesitated.
“Because the truth has already destroyed one family.”
Miracle became serious.
“What do you mean?”
She reached into her bag and pulled out a small envelope.
“This belongs to Amara.”
Miracle took it.
“How did you get this?”
“It was given to me years ago.”
“By who?”
The woman looked at him.
“By the person who was driving the second car.”
Miracle's eyes widened.
“You know who it was?”
“Yes.”
“Who?”
Before she could answer, a car suddenly appeared at the end of the road.
The woman panicked.
“They found me.”
“Who?”
“Run!”
She turned and disappeared between the buildings.
Miracle stood there in confusion.
The car began moving toward him.
He immediately stepped backward.
His heart pounded.
Then he recognized the car.
It belonged to Nathan.
Nathan jumped out.
“Miracle!”
Miracle stared at him.
“What are you doing here?”
Nathan looked around.
“Where's the woman?”
“What woman?”
“Don't lie to me!”
Miracle became angry.
“You're the one who told me to stop looking for the truth!”
Nathan stared at him.
“I was trying to protect you.”
“From what?”
Nathan's face became pale.
“From them.”
“Who are they?”
Nathan looked toward the road.
“I don't know how much time we have.”
Miracle stepped closer.
“Then start talking.”
Nathan took a deep breath.
“The person who caused the accident was not a stranger.”
Miracle's heart sank.
“What are you saying?”
Nathan looked directly at him.
“The driver knew Amara.”
“Who?”
Nathan hesitated.
Then he whispered:
“Her father.”
Miracle froze.
“What?”
“Amara's father was driving the second car that night.”
Miracle couldn't speak.
“That can't be true.”
“I wish it wasn't.”
“Why would he leave?”
Nathan looked away.
“Because he was afraid.”
“Afraid of what?”
Nathan shook his head.
“I don't know.”
Miracle grabbed his arm.
“You better tell me everything.”
Nathan pulled away.
“I wasn't there. I only know what I was told.”
“By who?”
Nathan's voice dropped.
“Amara's mother.”
Miracle stared at him.
The situation was becoming more complicated with every answer.
“Why would her mother tell you?”
“Because she wanted me to stay away from Amara.”
“Why?”
Nathan looked at him.
“Because she knew I cared about her.”
Miracle shook his head.
“This doesn't make sense.”
Nathan sighed.
“There's more.”
“What?”
“The man who died that night wasn't supposed to be on that road.”
Miracle's heart sank.
“Then why was he there?”
Nathan looked toward the sky.
“He was meeting someone.”
“Who?”
Nathan didn't answer.
“Who?”
“Amara.”
Miracle's eyes widened.
“You said she wasn't there.”
“She changed her mind.”
Miracle remembered what Amara had told him.
She had planned to meet the young man.
She didn't go.
And he died.
But now Nathan was saying something different.
“What are you trying to tell me?”
Nathan stared at him.
“Amara believes she changed her mind because she was afraid.”
“And?”
“She didn't.”
Miracle froze.
“What?”
“She was stopped.”
“By who?”
Nathan's silence answered before his words did.
Miracle whispered,
“Her father?”
Nathan nodded.
“He knew about the meeting.”
Miracle took a step backward.
“Why would he stop her?”
“I don't know.”
“And why did he leave the scene?”
“I don't know.”
“Then what do you know?”
Nathan looked frustrated.
“I know enough to understand that this isn't just an accident.”
A long silence followed.
Miracle looked at the envelope in his hand.
“What is inside this?”
Nathan shook his head.
“I don't know.”
Miracle opened it.
Inside was a letter.
His hands trembled as he unfolded it.
The handwriting looked familiar.
He began reading.
“Amara,
There are things your mother and I never told you. We thought we were protecting you, but perhaps we only made your pain worse.
The night he died, I made a decision that changed everything.
I didn't know the consequences would follow us for years.
I am sorry.
One day, you will understand why I did what I did.”
Miracle stopped reading.
There was no signature.
“What does this mean?”
Nathan shook his head.
“I don't know.”
Suddenly, they heard another vehicle approaching.
Nathan looked terrified.
“We need to leave.”
Miracle folded the letter.
“I'm not leaving without answers.”
“You don't understand.”
“Then make me understand.”
Nathan looked at him.
“Some people will do anything to keep the truth buried.”
Miracle stared at him.
“I don't care.”
“You should.”
Nathan walked toward his car.
Miracle followed.
“You're afraid.”
Nathan stopped.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
Nathan turned around.
“Because I know what happens when people discover things they weren't supposed to know.”
Then he drove away.
Miracle remained standing there.
He looked at the letter again.
For the first time, he realized something.
The secret wasn't only about Amara.
It involved her entire family.
And if the truth came out, it could destroy everything she believed about the people she loved.
---
That evening, Miracle went straight to Amara's house.
When she opened the door and saw him, she immediately knew something was wrong.
“What happened?”
Miracle didn't answer.
He handed her the letter.
She read it.
Her hands began shaking.
“This is my father's handwriting.”
Miracle nodded.
Amara looked at him.
“Where did you get this?”
“I was given it.”
“By who?”
“I don't know.”
She stared at the letter.
Then tears began falling.
“My father knew.”
“About the accident?”
She nodded.
“I knew there was something he wasn't telling me.”
Miracle gently held her hand.
“Amara…”
She pulled away.
“No.”
“What?”
“I need to know.”
She walked toward the living room.
“My mother is still awake.”
“Amara, wait.”
But she had already walked inside.
Miracle followed.
Her mother looked up from the sofa.
The moment she saw the letter in Amara's hand, the color disappeared from her face.
“Where did you get that?”
Amara stared at her.
“You knew?”
Her mother said nothing.
“Mum, did you know what happened that night?”
Silence.
“Answer me!”
Her mother began crying.
Miracle stood quietly.
Amara's voice trembled.
“Was Dad driving that car?”
Her mother closed her eyes.
“Yes.”
Amara's world seemed to stop.
“No…”
“He didn't mean to hurt anyone.”
“Then why did he leave?”
Her mother covered her face.
“Because he was afraid.”
“Afraid of what?”
Her mother looked at her.
“Your father wasn't the person you think he was.”
Amara stepped backward.
“What does that mean?”
Her mother began crying harder.
“There is another secret.”
Miracle looked at Amara.
“What secret?”
Her mother whispered:
“The man who died that night…”
She stopped.
Amara waited.
“...wasn't just your friend.”
Miracle's heart stopped.
Amara stared at her mother.
“What are you saying?”
Her mother looked at her with tears in her eyes.
“He was your brother.”
The room became completely silent.
Amara's face went blank.
Miracle couldn't move.
And for several seconds, nobody spoke.
Then Amara whispered:
“I had a brother?”
Her mother nodded.
“Yes.”
Amara's knees weakened.
Miracle caught her before she fell.
Her entire world had just changed.
The person she had spent years mourning as a friend…
had actually been her own brother.
And suddenly, the scars she had carried for years became deeper than anyone could have imagined.
