THE LOVE BEHIND MY SCARS Chapter Three: A Feeling I Couldn't Hide Some people enter your life quietly. They don't make a loud entrance. They don't announce that they are about to change everything. They simply appear. And before you realize what is happening, their name has become the one your heart searches for in every crowd. For Miracle, that person was Amara. He woke up that morning thinking about her. He tried to stop himself. He failed. A smile appeared on his face as he remembered their conversation beneath the tree. “Why am I smiling like a fool?” he asked himself. He quickly got dressed and left for school. When he arrived, Daniel was already waiting at the gate. Daniel looked at him for a few seconds. “You're doing it again.” “Doing what?” “Smiling for no reason.” Miracle laughed. “Maybe I'm just happy.” Daniel folded his arms. “Let me guess. Amara?” Miracle shook his head. “You think about her too much.” “And you talk about her too much,” Daniel replied. Before Miracle could answer, Amara walked toward them. “Good morning.” Miracle's face immediately brightened. “Good morning, Amara.” Daniel looked between them and smiled. “I'll leave you two.” “Daniel!” But Daniel was already walking away. Amara laughed. “Your friend is funny.” “He's annoying.” “He likes seeing you happy.” Miracle looked at her. “How do you know?” “Because real friends notice when something makes you smile.” Her words stayed with him. They walked into the classroom together. During lessons, Miracle kept noticing Amara. Not because he wanted to stare at her, but because something about her presence made the day feel different. She wasn't just a girl he liked anymore. She was becoming someone he trusted. At break time, they sat beneath their favorite tree. Amara was unusually quiet. Miracle noticed immediately. “You're not yourself today.” She looked at him. “I'm fine.” “You always say that when you're not fine.” She sighed. “My mother called me this morning.” “Is she okay?” “Yes. But she doesn't want me spending too much time with you.” Miracle's smile disappeared. “Why?” “She thinks you're distracting me.” He looked down. “Maybe you should listen to her.” Amara looked surprised. “You're not angry?” “No. I don't want to be the reason you have problems at home.” She smiled softly. “That is one of the things I like about you.” Miracle looked at her. “You like me?” She quickly looked away. “I mean… I like you as a person.” Miracle smiled. “Sure.” She laughed. “You're impossible.” They sat quietly for a moment. Then Miracle spoke. “Amara?” “Yes?” “Have you ever had a dream that you were afraid you might never achieve?” She nodded. “Many times.” “What do you do?” “I remind myself that fear is not proof that I will fail.” Miracle smiled. “That sounds wise.” She looked at him. “Maybe because I've had to learn it.” Miracle wanted to ask more, but he didn't. Sometimes, people needed time before telling you the stories behind their smiles. After school, they walked home together. They talked about their dreams. Miracle wanted to become successful enough to help his family. Amara wanted to build a future she could be proud of. They promised to encourage each other. Before they separated, Amara handed Miracle a small folded piece of paper. “Don't open it until you get home.” Miracle smiled. “Why?” “Just promise.” “I promise.” That night, Miracle opened the note. Only one sentence was written inside: “Never stop believing in the person you're becoming.” Miracle stared at it. Then he smiled. He placed the note carefully inside his notebook. For the first time, he admitted something he had been trying to hide. He was falling for her. Not because she was beautiful. Not because she made him laugh. But because she believed in him when he struggled to believe in himself. The next morning, Miracle found Amara beneath their tree. He sat beside her. “Amara.” She looked at him. “Yes?” “I need to tell you something.” Her expression became serious. “I don't know exactly when it happened,” Miracle continued, “but you've become important to me.” Amara didn't speak. Miracle's heart raced. “I don't want to lose our friendship. But pretending I don't have feelings for you is becoming harder every day.” For several seconds, there was only silence. Then Amara smiled. “I was wondering when you would finally say it.” Miracle stared at her. “You knew?” She laughed. “Miracle, you are not very good at hiding your feelings.” He smiled. “So…” “I feel the same way.” His heart seemed to stop for a second. They didn't need expensive gifts or dramatic promises. They simply held hands beneath the tree. Two young people. Two dreams. One beginning. But neither of them knew that love was not going to make their lives perfect. It was going to test them. Because somewhere in the same school, someone was watching them. His name was Nathan. And Nathan had his own history with Amara. He had once hoped that she would love him. And seeing her hold Miracle's hand had awakened something dangerous inside him. Jealousy. He turned away from them with anger in his eyes. “This isn't over,” he whispered. And while Miracle and Amara smiled beneath the tree, unaware of what was coming, the first shadow had already entered their love story.
