Austin leaned in closer, closing the already shrinking gap between us with a playful confidence that made my heart flutter. His eyes locked onto mine, curious and boldly intrusive.
“So, tell me something, Ava,” he began, “You got a man back home, or am I about to risk my efforts for nothing?”
I laughed softly, shaking my head slowly as I reached for my champagne flute, savoring the bubbles that burst delicately against my tongue. “Nope,” I replied, letting my eyes linger on his just a moment longer than necessary. “I am freshly and very happily single, and ready to mingle…but only with the right man.”
His eyes lit up at my challenge, a spark of mischief and promise flashing in their emerald depths.
“Well then,” he said, leaning even closer until his breath brushed softly against my ear, “let’s find out just how right I can be.”
My skin prickled instantly, goosebumps rising along my bare arms, forcing the fine hairs to stand at attention. Something about being this close to Austin the deepness of his voice, the subtle dominance in his body language brought out something primal, wild, even reckless inside me. My breath caught sharply in my throat as he leaned back just enough to lock eyes with mine, his gaze filled with a hunger that sent chills cascading deliciously down my spine. In that moment, I felt like a gazelle suddenly aware of the lion stalking her through the tall, golden grasses of the African savanna thrilled, terrified, and utterly captivated.
There was no denying it: this bad-ass white boy wanted me, and deep down, buried somewhere between lust and outright danger, I wanted him too, badly. Now, I wouldn’t consider myself weak by any measure, but at this point, I was undeniably turned on. I blamed the pheromones, Vegas heat, or maybe even the champagne bubbling in my veins but whatever it was felt like something straight out of an animal documentary. Mating season had officially hit the Las Vegas Strip, and I was clearly the lioness in heat.
Maybe it was the luxurious setting or the fact that my cheating-ass ex had bruised my pride just a few months earlier, but tonight, restraint was officially off the table. By the time we'd emptied half of that outrageously priced champagne bottle, my fingers had found their way into Austin’s thick, vibrant red hair, the silky strands slipping between my fingers as effortlessly as my last shreds of caution. His breath was warm against my ear, his voice low and inviting as he whispered sweet, seductive nothings that left me simultaneously swooning and giggling like a teenage girl with a secret.
Finally, he drew back slightly, eyes sparkling with mischievous intent. “Why don’t we get out of here, Ava?” he murmured softly, his thumb tracing lazy circles on the inside of my wrist. “I don’t know about you, but I’ve worked up quite the appetite. My treat, of course if you’d like to join me.”
I hesitated, biting down softly on my lower lip as I contemplated my next move. His gaze instantly dropped to my mouth, eyes darkening with unmistakable arousal, a look that made my decision far easier than I’d anticipated. I felt my heart pound faster, adrenaline and desire mingling dangerously. Screw caution; I deserved this. I deserved him.
I stood smoothly, grabbing my purse confidently and flashing him my most seductive smile one I usually reserved for special occasions, questionable decisions, and very good looking men who made me forget my better judgment.
“Lead the way, Austin,” I purred, leaning in close enough that my perfume wrapped gently around him, sealing our fates for the evening. “Something tells me our night is just getting started.”

“Oh, she’s definitely gonna f**k him.”
Keisha’s blunt declaration sliced straight through the silence, causing the entire circle of women to explode into laughter. I blinked rapidly, yanked suddenly from the sultry memory of Austin’s touch back to the bright lights and champagne haze of the penthouse.
“Excuse me?” I shot Keisha a playful glare. “Can you let me finish my damn story?”
Keisha rolled her eyes dramatically, flicking her braids over her shoulder with practiced flair. “Girl, please! We all grown in here, and ain’t nobody in this room surprised by your ass. You gave Austin the eyes, bit your lip, then hit him with the ‘lead the way.’ Sis, you’d already decided you were busting it wide open for that man.”
Toni howled, clutching her stomach as she wiped tears from her eyes. “Not ‘busting it wide open’ though! Ava, your story is officially rated XXX After Dark.”
“More like Skinemax,” Latrixa corrected dryly. “But let’s be real: Ava knew what she wanted the second Austin opened his wallet. The man ordered a twenty five-hundred-dollar bottle without flinching. That alone got Ava’s panties halfway down her thighs.”
“Oh my god, Latrixa!” I protested, throwing a napkin in her direction as laughter shook my shoulders. “It was not even like that!”
“It was exactly like that, baby,” Camille interjected gently, sipping her champagne with regal amusement. “No shame, though. A man willing to throw down that kind of money to prove a point is either very good or very bad news, often both. And either way, you were clearly all in.”
Nia tilted her head thoughtfully, smiling gently at me. “Honestly, Ava, I don’t blame you one bit. You’d just gotten free from your trifling ass ex, and this fine, confident, wealthy man was promising you dinner and dessert. I mean, who wouldn’t say yes?”
“I wouldn’t,” Keisha declared loudly, clicking her nails in exaggerated defiance. “At least not after knowing him all of one hour.”
“Lies!” Toni cackled loudly. “Girl, if Austin had flashed that Amex Black Card at you, you’d be calling him daddy before the appetizers even hit the table.”
Keisha gasped, eyes wide with mock outrage. “Toni! Don’t put that evil on me! But…okay, you right. For twenty-five-hundred-dollar champagne, I’d at least consider it.”
The room erupted again, laughter bouncing off the walls of the penthouse, filling the space with warmth and reckless honesty.
I shook my head, smiling softly at these women the sisters who both read me for filth and had my back unconditionally. “Y’all are wild as hell. But, for your information, I wasn’t even thinking about s*x…yet.”
Camille raised her brows knowingly. “Yet being the operative word.”
“Exactly,” Latrixa smirked, leaning forward, her eyes locked onto mine. “Come on, Ava, stop stalling. What happened next?”
I groaned, refilling my champagne glass and taking a long sip to build suspense. “Fine. You really wanna know? I’ll tell you what happened next…”
And with their eager eyes on me, champagne flowing, and inhibitions fading fast, I took a deep breath and dove back into my past ready to reveal exactly how Austin managed to rewrite my rules in one unforgettable night.
