Killian cast a subtle glance at Estela from the corner of his eye.
She had been incredibly tense all evening, even with the kids. They were preparing dinner together, and every time Killian moved close, her small body stiffened like a coiled spring about to snap. He couldn’t help himself when she jumped nearly a foot off the ground at the slightest brush of his hand on her waist, just because he wanted to move her out of the way to open the utensil drawer.
“Estela, what’s going on? You’re acting like a frightened rabbit,” he asked, turning her gently to face him.
“Nothing,” she murmured, her gaze immediately dropping away from his.
“Eyes,” he ordered, noticing how she squirmed instead of obeying. “Now, little wolf.”
