Untitled Episode 4

Over time, their relationship deepened. They set a date, went to church and got married. After their marriage, Laila quit her job at the library. John and Laila's small family was built on the basis of love and mutual understanding. Their days began to be filled with peace, joy and small moments of happiness. Within a few days, John achieved a great success in his work. He was promoted to senior professor. This achievement added new pride and joy to their lives. Laila always stood by John's side, encouraging him, feeling proud of his success. Their life continued to move forward in such a happy rhythm that they did not realize how three years had passed. The small house seemed to be filled with love, laughter and sweet memories. Every morning before John left for college, Laila would cook for him with her own hands. Standing at the door, she would say with a sweet smile, “Be careful.” John would then answer with a smile, “If you are by my side, then there is no way to be careless!” These little conversations were the true beauty of their relationship, simple but deep. While taking classes in college, discussing with students, or sitting in the library reading books, John's thoughts would repeatedly turn to Laila. He felt like he wanted to share every moment of the day with Laila. On the other hand, Laila took care of the house with great love. Sometimes she would read books, sometimes she would remember old memories, and in the afternoon she would sit by the window waiting for John to return. There was a kind of sweet happiness in this waiting. The smile that would appear on Laila's face when John returned home in the evening seemed to remove all the fatigue of the day. They would sit together and have tea, tell stories of the day, talk about small incidents, funny memories, or dreams for the future. The greatest joy of their lives was hidden in these simple moments. One evening, a light breeze was blowing. The sun was spreading the last light before setting in the sky. Laila was standing on the balcony and looking at the sky. A calm, peaceful atmosphere surrounded her. A thought suddenly flashed in her mind..... Life is like a story. With time, all the mistakes, all the imperfections are gradually fixed. And if the right person is by her side, then that story becomes even more beautiful. Laila smiled softly. She felt that she was really lucky to have John by her side in every chapter of her life story. Just then, John came from behind and stood beside her. Without saying anything, he gently held Laila's hand. A thousand feelings seemed to be expressed in that silent touch. Both of them looked at the sky, no words, just feelings. Their silence was the deepest language of love. As John came and stood next to her, Laila said softly, “Look, how fast time is passing! It seems like this is the day we first met.” John smiled lightly and held Laila’s hand and said, “Time does pass, but my love for you has not diminished at all; on the contrary, it is increasing day by day.” A strange glimmer of peace appeared in Laila’s eyes. As if countless memories, countless feelings and an unwavering faith were hidden deep in those eyes. That night was unusually silent. Silence had descended around, as if nature had also fallen asleep. John was in a deep sleep. Suddenly, a strange sound woke him up. He opened his eyes and saw Laila lying next to him, fidgeting. A continuous murmur was coming out of her mouth, and that sound seemed to shatter the silence of the night. At first, John did not understand anything. What to do, where to go, who to call. His chest started pounding in panic. He quickly sat up and placed his hand on Laila's forehead, but he couldn't figure out how to calm her down. After a few moments, he gathered himself, picked up the telephone on the front table, and quickly called the nursing home. John kept calling her name over and over again, trying to calm Laila down. "Laila... I'm here, don't be afraid... everything will be fine." But Laila's pain didn't seem to be getting any worse. In the meantime, an ambulance came outside with a loud noise and stopped in front of the gate of the house. A light rain was falling from the sky, and the raindrops seemed to intensify the tension of the night. Two health workers quickly entered and, understanding the situation, lifted Laila onto a stretcher. John stood still for a moment. A thousand thoughts seemed to be swirling in his head. Sitting inside the ambulance, John held Laila's hand tightly. Fear, anxiety, and a shadow of an unknown fear were clearly visible in his eyes. She began to pray to God in her mind. “Take care of her, please don’t let anything happen to her.” The ambulance was speeding towards the nursing home, and the loud sound of the siren seemed to be blaring in time with John’s heartbeat. Sometimes Laila would close her eyes in pain, and John would put his hand on her forehead and say slowly, “Laila, I’m here… have some courage… everything will be okay.” But she could tell how much uncertainty there was even in his own voice. After a while, the ambulance stopped in front of the nursing home. In a moment, Laila was being carried inside on a stretcher. John ran after them, but as he reached the door, a nurse stopped him. “You wait outside,” she said in a calm but firm voice. The door closed. John stood alone in the corridor. The white walls around him, the strange silence, and the ticking of the clock, all combined to make it seem as if time had stopped. Every second seemed like an era to him. He started walking slowly. Every now and then he stopped and looked at the door, as if everything would be normal once the door opened. He started thinking about their first meeting, the moments they had spent together, the little smiles and the pride. Everything seemed to come together and fill his heart.
