Chapter 4
Ivy’s POV.
I ran as fast as my legs could carry me through the villages since I knew I couldn't risk getting caught by Donald and his men, otherwise my life was doomed. Back there at the convoy, I caused so much trouble, and I think one person at least left dead, so definitely no one would come looking for me to keep me alive; there must be a reckoning.
The whole place looked quiet and it was about to storm, like so heavily. I never knew what was to happen to me if I didn’t find somewhere safe because I felt their presence, I was a slave and my scent was what filled the air so even the trees weren’t a safe place to hide because I would be fished out in a twinkle of an eye, especially by Donald himself.
I came across a story building that looked welcoming to me, and I rushed to the door, knocking my heart out.
“Hello, anybody here? Hello? Somebody...”
At first, no one responded, but I knocked even harder, and this time, it had begun raining, and I knew I just needed to be at that house. Donald and his men were so close now, and in a couple of minutes, I would be taken prisoner again.
“Hello? Anyone here!” I screamed at the top of my voice.
The door flung open, and I beheld the face of this mid-60s lady who didn’t seem too welcoming after all; I just kept on staring at her for a while, and boom…
“Who are you and what are you doing here?” She asked, trying to read meaning from the way I was dressed; so scattered and unkempt, looking pale and nervous, tension clouding my eyeballs; I didn't know how to start at first but was forced to when I realized my wolf and that of Donald’s had begun the connection stuff yet again.
“Are you going to explain yourself please and tell me what’s going on here please? I don't understand a thing here.” She continued, but this time, I never listened to a thing she said; I just forced myself through the door and made sure I didn’t do anything that would have exposed me because I was almost caught. Donald and his men were just driving into the boulevard, and I was so lucky I was in; at this point, my scent was the next thing left of me to clear off, and I was so lucky she harkened to my wolf.
“Who are those people outside? Are they the ones after you?” She asked, looking concerned about me now.
“Yes, Mrs. They are after me, and I think they want to kill me,” I said in panic as she had a silk cloth around me at the moment.
“You should have told me at once that the king's men were after you, and you had to run for your life. Are you a slave? Take this, put it on.” She hands over her bracelet to me.
“I was so scared that I never wanted to disclose the real idea behind my state; please, I was trying to be on my guard, Mrs. I do hope you understand,” I said, trying to beg the situation.
I knew I was now going to be safe no matter what even though Donald and the rest of them had trapped my scent around that neighborhood. I just needed to have the bracelet on and do what I wanted to.
“My name’s Ivy, I’m from Night Haven Pack.”
“My name is Mariam, and I’m happy you ran to me for refuge, you are highly welcome to my home, at least now you have the bracelet on you, they won’t trap your scent easily, and in case they are on a search patrol, fear not lady, you need not be scared of anything, you just have to be rest assured that I would have you hidden at the basement at least they wouldn’t have the guts to go as far as search that area.”
“I am elated, Mrs.” I smiled at her as she held me by the hand and walked me down to the dining area, which felt a bit warm.
“Do you wish to stay here for some days, you could. I can understand you’re in a tough situation, and I know if you are caught, you must face the death penalty. I do this at my own risk, but there’s nothing that would justify my act as a fellow werewolf if I don’t grant you shelter and cover. At least for the night, that’s my person.”
I felt so warm under her embrace not till I heard…
“Mom…?”
She walked down the stairs, staring at me in disappointment, and finally, was at my point.
“Please this is my daughter, her name’s Elfa.”
“Are you kidding me? Mom, who is she?” she asked angrily again.
“Shut your mouth Elfa! Aren’t you seeing she’s with me at least? She needs shelter and came to us for one, she definitely is going to have a favor from me.” She said holding me steadfast as I sat on one of the dining chairs while she stood in front of her daughter.
“I am trying to understand mom. You brought a stranger to our house, and you are trying to tell me to calm down or what? Mom, can’t you see she is looking so scattered and unkempt? You’ve always taught me to be clean and presentable yet you bring in a mad lady to our house?”
“Elfa, if you as much as rain those abusive words on her again, I would make sure I’ll teach you a lesson, and you know how I do mine.”
“Mom, you…” she almost continued before her mom slammed at her again.
“Get out of my sight before I teach you a lesson you will never forget.”
I watched as Elfa walked out on us angrily back to her room murmuring throughout.
“Don’t worry, my dear, you are in safe hands, and nothing will happen to you. Elfa, my daughter, could be insulting most times, and that would take a little time for her to get used to you.”
“It’s alright, ma’am, I understand totally; I just feel bad she doesn’t even know me or anything about me yet condemns me in such a manner.”
Just then we heard a call knock on the door and went straight to get it.
“Who's at the door?” She asked.
“It’s me, Jason.”
Jason was her nephew and it was understandable to open the door.
She opened the door, and behold, Donald at the door. She turned to me in regret as I turned to see Elfa walk out of her room innocently.
