NOT A BAD DREAM

AMARA'S POV My name is Amara Winston. Seventeen, and a little over three days before I finally meet my wolf. I couldn't wait till I get to meet her. Everyone who'd shifted to their wolf form talked about how blissful it was. Blue Diamond pack, relished in having some of the strongest wolves around the province. I couldn't wait till I got my wolf and joined the enforcers. The enforcers were a group of strong, athletic wolves that saw to the security around the pack. They frequently patrolled the borders of the packs. Engaged in sparring…and gosh are they so strong. My blood roared with the need to keep my pack safe. Hell! It was an honour to fight, and bring rogues that threatened to breach the borders to book. I sighed, as I slipped into my uniform, tied my hair into a sleek ponytail. I gave one final look at my reflection, and let out a small smile. “Soon enough,” I muttered under my breath, before I made my way downstairs for breakfast. I flinched when I got to the dining table, and it was empty. “Mom, Dad!” I called out but there was no response. Suddenly, the door barged open and Kyle sauntered in. He was my elder brother by two years. Strong, handsome and the perfect representation of what an Alpha to be should look like. “Amy, there you are!” His voice was low, I could barely make it out. Kyle had Dad's charisma and mom's kindness. Me on the other hand, I was soft, but a little rough around the edges. “Hey Kyle,” I tipped my head sideways, searching his eyes. “You don't seem okay, is there a problem?” He swallowed. For once in my life, I saw tension lined the edge of his shoulders. Kyle's expression was forlorn, almost…almost helpless. “You don't have to worry about it,” he stated matter of factly. But the anxiety around his statement deepened, with each word he spoke. I shifted uncomfortably on my feet. “Kyle, you know you can talk to me right?” He let out a deep sigh. “I'll see you after school today,” he sidestepped me and made a beeline for the staircase. Then, he stopped abruptly at the feet of the stairs, as if the last piece of puzzle clicked in his head. Kyle spun around to face me, “Lest I forget, don't drop by Dad's office on your way to school, he has some, some ugh…important visitors.” “Okay,” I responded. On a normal day, I didn't care about Dad's visitors. As an Alpha, my Dad was used to receiving a ton of visitors in his office. Still, I couldn't brush off the heavyweight of tension that dug its claws in Kyle's statement. I lost my appetite and ditched breakfast. I made my way outside to the waiting car. Something was amiss. As the car drove past his office in the huge expanse of the packhouse, my insides prickled with curiosity. “Wait!” The words fell out of my mouth before I could grasp it. We were some distance away from his office. The family chauffeur Darryl, snapped his gaze through the rear mirror, staring at me. “Is there a problem Miss Amara?” “Reverse the car back to my Dad's office,” My tone was low, with a commanding undertone. The man's face pinched together, “I'm sorry ma'am, but the instruction from Kyle was to take you straight to school.” My face morphed into a frown. “Did you just go against my word?” I wasn't one to flex my power as an Alpha blood, this was a one off. He shook his head slowly, “I'm sorry ma'am. But I can't go against Kyle's instructions,” One. Two. Three. I hesitated, then without pondering too much on it, I opened the door and scrambled out of the car. “Miss Amara!” He shouted after me. The middle-aged man got out of the car. I looked back, and increased my pace. It didn't take much for the old gamma to run out of breath. I stepped into the lavish state of the art office. Thankfully, his secretary wasn't on the seat. I knocked once, then pushed the door open. Father's face was contorted in surprise and one other emotion I couldn't wrap my fingers around when I barged in. Something—someone however caught me off guard, draining all the oxygen in my lungs. Chiselled jaw. Broad shoulders that easily filled the black shirt that sucked his honed muscles in a way that made my toes curl. His hair, a unique brown shade glistened under the golden light of the chandelier. I was too stunned for a few minutes to speak, or do anything. His eyes, oh my goodness, his eyes were to die for. Icy gray eyes with amber orbs. They were so bold, you could pick them out in pitch darkness. Father cleared his throat and I snapped out of my reverie. The stranger's possessive presence had held the room on chokehold. I feared I was going to fight for air, any moment from now. “Excuse me gentlemen.” No response. He pushed himself up, rounded the table and covered the distance between us. “What are you doing here?” “I-I-I…” I stuttered, before I finally found my tongue. “What do they want?” “Forget it, go to school. We'll talk about this when you get back from school,” he patted my shoulders softly. Now that he was mere inches away from me, I could make out the emotion on his face. Fear. I didn't move an inch. “Amara leave now,” he gritted through clenched teeth. I looked past his shoulders and my eyes turned four with the stranger. His eyes were cold, stoic and distant. I quickly looked away, spun around my feet and made to leave when a hoarse voice said, “Alpha Alex, would you perhaps introduce your daughter to my master?” Father turned to face them. “Erm, gentlemen that wouldn't be nece—” He growled. “Now!” Father's mouth slipped open and he was about to talk when I told him, “I wouldn't have you speak to my father in that manner!” The second man who had a scary scowl on his face bared his teeth, “Rude and bold. Just like we were told,” he turned to face his master, “Should we make her suffer for this?” No response. “Today's your lucky day, my master isn't in the mood.” “Go no!” Father warned impatiently. “Are you okay?” My voice dripped with concern. “Now!” He pushed the door open and I stepped out. I hung around the entrance of his office for a bit. “I can smell your scent young lady.” I groaned and left for school. There was something about that stranger, the one with the captivating aura attached to him. Even though I hated how his guard treated my father, I hated the stranger now by the way. I felt a strange force of attraction towards him.
