Summer's POV
I was thrown harshly inside the prison, falling pitifully on the cemented floor. The smell almost knocked me out of my senses.
“I need to see my sister! Let me out of here!” I demanded, trying to insert my hands in between the iron bars. The guard didn't spare me a glance, fixed his gaze on the lock.
“Fvcking open this gate right now! I need to go out, they are lying. I can never kill my step father!” I growled, making my point known. He pretended not to hear me and walked away.
Skylar was growling to be let out. The gate was a piece of cake for her to break. But it was coated with wolfsbane, which would make us grow weak if I tried to force myself out.
I fell hopelessly on the floor, crying my eyes out. Everything happened so fast that I wasn't even given a chance to explain myself.
The oil lamps illuminated the prison, further breaking my heart. How can she tell such a big lie? And Alan, he rejected me even when he knew the truth.
I was still weeping, my cries echoing in the corners of the prison until I heard approaching footsteps. I rose up immediately to check who it was.
“Gia! Is that you?!" I exclaimed, trying to catch a glimpse of who it was. Gia revealed herself, in her usual extremely short spaghetti gown.
“Please, stop all these pranks! It isn't funny anymore. Why would you tell such a lie? They are going to kill me if….”
" Exactly what I want, Summer!” She interrupted abruptly. I was taken back by her voice. She walked closer, snarling at me.
“My coming here is just to tell you my reasons behind all these,” she began, "I hate you with every fiber of my being, Summer! I can't just help it but to hate you. And as for your mate….” She twirled her hair around her fingers with a teasing smile.
"He's mine now. Funny enough, he was also using you just to get the throne. And since he couldn't, he came to me,” she added. My heart clenched at the heavy load of information.
I started to recall how I've been the one pushing our relationship further. And Gia had always been hostile with me for no reason. All I do is try to satisfy her.
“Alan is from the enemy's pack. I'm not mad that he rejected me, but from all these, it's clear that he is trying to get the throne for a reason!” I lamented, "You can't be fooled Gia! He's using you….”
"Enough!” She shunned, “He loves me. And he has proved that to me. You're sprouting all these out of jealousy. You will be beheaded tomorrow, little sister. You should be worried about that,” she mocked, letting out a chuckle before walking away.
"No, no, no. Gia you can't do this! I'm your blood. I'm sorry for whatever I might have done for you to hate me. Please, stop all these. Tell them it was a prank. Gia! Gia! Gia!” I continued to scream her name but she didn't turn for a second.
Tears sprang out of my eyes, in fear and betrayal. My heart heaved with sobs as I continued to cry. There was no way I would escape this. Skylar was also silent, accepting our fate already.
**********
The Next Day.
Two huge men entered the prison. I jolted up and hastily dusted my gown. Has she reconsidered her decision?
“Did my sister send you guys?" I asked, shaking like a jellyfish. My heart was beating erratically, Gia said it yesterday that I would be beheaded today. I prayed to the moon goddess, hoping that's not what is happening here.
None of them responded until the tallest one gripped my neck suddenly. He squeezed my jaw, forcing my mouth open and that other guy came forward and poured a liquid inside my mouth.
Everything happened in a millisecond with no time to react. Immediately the liquid was forced down my throat. They left me alone and I gazed at them with fearful eyes.
About to growl at them, my head suddenly turned foggy and Skylar growled painfully. I fell on my knees as I coughed out blood. It was as if my soul was trying to leave my body.
“It's the wolfsbane. That's to keep you calm and to stop your wolf from retaliating,” the tallest one informed, shocking the hell out of me. I gripped my neck tightly, wriggling on the floor as I battled with the fluid in my system.
Soon, the two of them picked me up harshly out of the prison. I was weak. So weak. I was dragged to the market, hanging me up with my arms apart. I continued to cough out blood, my heart stung when I couldn't feel Skylar anymore.
She had gone really weak.
“Summer Howl, the step daughter of the late Alpha! Has been accused of murder, a traitor and a manipulator. To which she's all guilty!" The elder male wolf, Kai said in a loud voice.
Hot tears streamed down my eyes, I raised my head a little and looked at Gia. She wasn't facing me, standing beside Alan with their gazes on Kai.
“Thereby, she would be beheaded right here and now! This would be a great lesson to everyone who would wanna take her path!” Kai added. I wept bitterly, hanging my head low.
I shut my eyes, feeling the headsman coming closer to me.
“Let the countdown begin!” Alan growled and the crowd obeyed. I embraced myself, scared to my bones with my eyes closed.
“3… 2… 1,”
“Stop!” my heart was about to leap out of my chest before I heard that voice. It sounded dangerous and authoritative. I opened my eyes, the sword was raised a few inches above my neck.
I couldn't turn my neck to see the person that has this impact on everyone. The sword was brought down until I saw everyone bowing to their feet.
