The months went by quickly, but comfortably for Sheila. She kept herself busy getting the room ready for the puppies. She often wondered if they would look like pups or human babies. She didn't really know much about werewolves; she was still fairly new to this immortal life. She thought there could be a chance they would be born looking human; they themselves only changed at the full moon, so it was possible.
Thomas wasn't sure either. He was just happy they were finally having children of their own. Thomas had spent most of his time with Sheila over the months; except for a few nights a month. She understood it had a lot to do with the full moon. She changed too, but she couldn't hunt.
Thomas generally brought her a rabbit or coyote. Sheila didn't believe in feasting on human flesh. She was strong enough to resist the urge for human flesh. Thomas she wasn't sure about. She didn't really worry about it too much; he didn't behave any differently, so she figured he feasted on animals like her.
They were both excited about the children coming. The last trimester came and Sheila could barely move. She had become bed ridden due to how big she had become. She didn't mind so much though. She was enjoying the rest. She knew pretty soon, she wasn't going to be getting much rest.
She had found out that her son was scratched by a wolf outside the private school he was going to. Her daughter didn't show up until after dinner; Sheila noticed how pale she looked. Sheila suspected something was going on with Bella, but she didn't know what. Thomas insisted the boy was scratched by a werewolf; Sheila was thinking it couldn't be possible two of her loved ones becoming a werewolf. This was not the homecoming with her children she was expecting.
Over the next few weeks, Sheila noticed that Bella's routine was moreso nightly than daily. She would sleep through the day until dinner time; then she would wake up and leave for a few hours. She was moreso concerned, however, with her son and herself. Her son was going through the transformation she went through; and it's not a pretty thing to go through. Sheila was getting weaker the further along she got in her pregnancy; Thomas insisted she try human blood.
She was so weak she just agreed. Thomas came back that night with a bag of type o blood. He promised no one got hurt; he convinced the town doctor to sell him a few bags. He told her there was more where that came from; Sheila was relieved after she drank it.
Sheila decided considering she was much stronger, it was time to talk to Bella. She needed to know what was going on with her. She waited until Bella got back from one of her evening escapades. She sat Bella down and then turned her back to her. She poured a glass of blood for each of them; she didn't want Bella to see what it was.
She sat down at the dining table with Bella and handed her the glass of blood. Bella smelled it and seemed to linger over it for a few minutes. Then she took a sip and asked her mother what it was she wanted. Sheila sipped her drink and proceeded to ask her what was going on with her. Bella took in a deep breath and told her she had been bitten by a vampire.
Sheila couldn't believe her ears; how did vampires even exist? She sat quietly for a minute, thinking on it. Then she told Bella she could accept it. There has been stranger things to happen to this family; so having a vampire for a daughter wasn't so bad in the aspect of things that happened to them. Now that things were straight with Bella, she needed to go look in on her son.
Sheila found him Peacefully sleeping in his bed. He looked exhausted; which was understandable considering what he was going through. Thomas insisted that maybe they should move on. Sheila didn't understand why; they seemed to be doing fine where they were. Thomas was worried the townsfolk might come after Bella; she was apparently killing live stock all over the county.
At first Sheila laughed, but stopped immediately after looking at the look on Thomas's face. He was being firmly serious. He insisted they move further west. Sheila thought it was better to wait until the pups were born; but being she was only six months along, she could still travel. She agreed to leave the estate to cook and the rest of the servants; they were like family to her anyway.
Bella was okay with it after her mother told her. Her son was willing to do anything to stay out of private school. It was therefore unanimously decided they would leave for the west in the morning. In the meantime, Sheila and Bella packed all they could fit in the carriage. Thomas and her son went to chop as much wood, gather as much carrots and water for the horses.
Morning time came and Sheila had dark curtains lined inside the cabin of the carriage. She knew Bella was sensitive to sunlight now and she tried her best to protect her from it. Thomas and her son sat in the driver's seat, with Thomas driving the horses. Sheila stayed inside the cabin of the carriage with Bella. Before they knew it, they were three states away from Massachusetts; where Sheila was born and raised.
By the time they got to Kentucky, Sheila didn't think she could possibly sleep anymore. All she did was eat and sleep so far. They decided to keep going on to the Midwest territories. One state, Iowa; Sheila rather liked. Now she understood what "waves of grain" meant.
They stayed the night in the new city of Des Moines. It wasn't very big at that time, but no city was bigger than new York in those days. The roaring twenties is what they called this decade. There wasn't much "roaring" going on in the Midwest though, she noticed. Thomas was in love with the land and how fertile it was; while her children and her desired to keep moving on.
Thomas was outvoted, so they moved on the next day. The trip seemed to get rougher once they hit the Colorado Rockies. The mountains were as beautiful as they were treacherous. They had to stop a few times while traveling through the mountains; the blizzards were too much for them to push through. Sheila was nearly full term by the time they got to the Nevada desert.
Sheila gave birth in death valley. Thomas had stopped and built them a little home out of a cave he had found. The desert nights were cold; so the extra wood Thomas packed came in handy. Sheila bore a litter of four, one had sadly passed away during the delivery. She buried her right outside the cave; where she could always visit.
Although she was sad about loosing one child; she still had four others to attend to. She stayed strong for them. Thomas pitched in as much as he could and Bella was a big help at night time. Her son was doing his own teenage thing and Sheila didn't pretend to know anything about it. She just hoped he was making wise decisions.
Meanwhile, she enjoyed her time with her four other children. She thought they were going to stay where they were. However Thomas had other plans. He told her there was a beautiful place to the west of them that she would love. He said it had blue skies, blue waters and sandy beaches; Sheila couldn't wait to get there.
