My name is Lobelliana Bluebird. I have a twin brother, an older sister, and two younger twins. I also have a daughter, and a pit pull. I live at my families ranch taking care of the cattle. I'm one of the top snipers in the U.S. all that after my accident.
My ex, the father of my daughter, tried to kill me after I broke his nose. He had slapped our daughter and it was my first response. The only reason I'm able to tell this story is because of my dog. I had come home one day and went to my room. He had been waiting in my room with a chefs knife. He put it in my right temple, and the top broke off. I played dead, my instinct told me too. After he jumped outa my window, my dog, Sadee came into my room. She saw I was on the floor, and ran to get Alyssa, my older sister who happens to be a nurse. She came in saw me and called 9-1-1. Within an hour of the incident I was in surgery, the doctors had to make a cut between on either side of the blade stuck in my temple. Because of that, I have an 'X' scar on my temple. Along with the two scars on my upper arm, from him grasping and shaking me.
Waking up from surgery I realized that there were two investigators in my room along with my paraplegic father. I could tell my dad had been crying, as his face was burned with tears. All I remember is the guilt setting in as I realized that my arm scars were visible under the sleeves of the hospital gown that adorned my body. We all sat in silence for what felt like forever. Finally one of the detectives spoke.
"Miss bluebird, I'm detective Spark, and this is my partner detective Begay. We are here to get your side of the story."
"Lana, why didn't you tell any of us that he was hurting you?" My dad asked.
Tears burned my eyes, I couldn't even look at him. By crying I had just broke the code of cowgirls. What he was asking me proved that I wasn't strong enough to handle my own life.
"I'm sorry papa, I thought I was strong enough to handle him. I wasn't I failed you." I said in an embarrassment.
Officer Begay cleared his throat. " we need to know exactly what all you remember. Your ex is on the run right now because of this incident. He's become one of the most hated people in our county, let alone the next three counties."
I took a deep breath, "okay, I took Maybell to counseling. Once I got home I took my jacket off and hung it up along with my pick up keys. I went to my room to change into my stall cleaning clothes. When I got to my room, I closed my door. I didn't see him till I looked in my mirror. By then he had the knife to my temple and started to stab me. My instinct told me to go limp. After I went limp he let me crumple to the floor. After taking the knife partially out of my temple and the tip of the knife broke off in my temple. After he kicked me a couple times he bolted from my room out of my window. I didn't feel safe enough to walk or anything so I just laid there. Low and behold Sadee came into my room sniffed me and ran out of my room. About three minutes later Alyssa came into my room and took one look at me and she called 9-1-1. She made sure I was breathing, and applied pressure on my temple. After the ambulance loaded me into the back I blacked out. Next thing I remember I woke up this morning. What happened to Maybell? Is she okay?"
Papa smiles through his tears, "she's with Alyssa,Lucas, Ester, and Ethan. She's safe at the ranch."
I sighed in relief. "What about mama? Where is she?"
"She just went down to the cafeteria." Said papa.
At that moment mama walked into my room. She saw me and put the sandwich on the table and put her hand over her mouth. Tears in her eyes, she walked up to me and hugged me.
"Lana you're awake, thank goodness. I didn't think you were ever going to wake up." Mama said.
"How long was I out?" I asked kinda terrified of the answer.
"About two days, which is remarkable considering how much blood you lost. Don't worry, you're ranch as well as your room here are under guard." Detective Spark said.
Relief flooded my body "good now when can I outa here?"
"That's up for the doctors to decide, he should be in shortly." Papa said.
"We've gotten all the information we need We'll be in touch." Detective Begay said.
After nods, farewells and well wishes the two cops left. Mama called home and told everyone I was awake. I told her Mak would've already known. I was right. Never underestimate the bond twins share. After rolling her eyes she said she'd keep everyone posted.
I had no idea how much my life had changed and the difficulties I would have to overcome. If I knew statistically how rare my case was, how severe the problem that I was now a part of was, I would have looked at you like you were nuts.
I was just a small town rancher. My entire life was based around my family and our way of life. Our chores were done daily, before sun down. Then we would go to our rooms, put on different clothes, and sit down to one of our mamas homemade dinners.
PTSD was something I had heard of but never thought I would have a personal connection to it. My life was never going to be the same as it was.
