Chapter 4: I want to find that girl!!

2184 Words
Rory  POV That night, that hotel waiter flashed through my mind, and Scott's voice sounded just like his! Could Scott be that hotel waiter?! The thought sent shivers down my spine, and I quickly told myself not to dwell on it. There are plenty of people in the world with similar voices, so why should I be so lucky? Was it just a coincidence that the man I had a one-night stand with turned out to be a wealthy professor? I shook my head, urging myself not to get lost in fantasies. "Maybe you'd seen me before when I visited Needy's house back in middle school," I said. “yeah, maybe." He seems a bit disappointed? Maybe I'm just overthinking it, I wondered. “I didn't recognize you either,” he whispered softly, causing me to turn around and notice that there were only a few feet between us. My heart raced with anticipation about what the hell was happening. Was this what I hoped it was? “Yeah," l replied uncomfortably, “I’m not really the dorky girl l was the last time l was here. Then again, l could say you have changed as well.” He had changed. The older he got, the hotter he was, especially now that he was divorced. I smiled, pleased by his compliment. "You have to believe in yourself," he said softly, adjusting the strap of my backpack. “Thank you. I will.”  It was such a simple gesture, yet it made me blush again.  I simply said goodbye and walked away, leaving the campus. Scott’s POV I sat in my corner office, gazing out the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking one of the best views in the city. I just saw Rory on campus. When I think of her face, it always feels so familiar, yet I can't quite place where I've seen her before.  That familiar feeling might be from the time she visited my house back in middle school. I shook my head to clear the memory of that night, focusing on what's next. "It's good fortune to have you teach here," the dean said. "Thank you for your contributions to the school. I won't keep you any longer." "Alright, see you next time, Dean." I shook hands with the university dean and then saw him out. Watching the dean walk away, flashes of my days spent at the school crossed my mind. Of course, teaching here is just my side gig. My real job is running a major film and television company. Once he was gone, I reached for my phone which had gone off a few different times during my meeting. Needy. The girl was a pain in my ass, but as my only child, I loved her no matter what she did. She was the princess in my kingdom, and I was the king of my castle. For years I had tried to correct Needy’s behavior, but her mother was always an obstacle. ‘Having people over today for a pool party.’ Shaking my head, I sighed. There was no arguing with this girl. ‘That’s fine. I will be home later this afternoon. Do you girls need anything?’ A few moments passed, and I watched the small bubbles at the bottom of our chat move. ‘We’re fine. See.’ A photo pushed through on my screen, and I smiled at my beautiful daughter, Needy, dressed with a straw hat and cover-up over her bathing suit. She was beautiful. ‘You look beautiful, sweetie. Be safe, see you soon.’ As soon as I sent the text, though, another photo came through, and it was one that made me internally groan. My hand was tightening on the phone as I stared down at the smiling face. It was Rory.  My daughter’s beautiful friend who was supposed to be off limits. From the moment I laid eyes on Rory, I felt something towards her. A desire, a hunger that made me want to know more. I knew it was wrong, but god, was she the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. Her hair was up in a high ponytail, showing off the elegant length of her neck. A black bathing suit tied tight to her body showing off every delicious curve of her skin. The sight made my mouth wet with the desire to taste her.I don’t know why, but she always reminds me of the girl from that night. Never once before did an interest of the girl come across my mind until now, and yet, even though I tried my hardest not to take interest, I couldn’t help it. The once chubby, flat chested, young girl had grown into a beautiful tall brunette with blue eyes and a figure most women would die for. I needed to get laid. Reflecting on that night, I thought how great it would have been if the girl had been Rory. Seeing her the other night in the kitchen was a surprise, but remembering her stretching up into the cabinet, her white tank top rising, and her pink shorts hugging her perfectly sculpted ass… Well,I shouldn't think like this; it's really quite wrong. She was f*****g spectacular, and I wanted nothing more than to bend her over that counter and have my way with her. The disgusting thought turned my stomach, but as if my s****l prowess took over, it quickly dissipated. I wanted her more than I had ever wanted anyone. As if on cue, my office door opened, and in walked a tall blonde with hot red lipstick. Her tight blue dress hugged her in all the right places, but the problem was she wasn’t who I wanted to see. She's one of the actresses under my company. "Hello, CEO, here are the new files for several stars," she said, placing the items on my desk but showing no signs of leaving. "You can go now," I said, not looking up as I signed the documents. Her lips turned up into a smile as she pushed my chair back and sat down. “Why haven’t you come to see me?” Her thick Japan accent washed over me, batting her lashes. “I had to wait a week and come see you here.” “I told you, Jessica, I am busy right now.” Her brows furrowed as she put on a pout which may have worked on most men, but not me. Needy had perfected that look, and I had grown well accustomed to not falling for it. “I thought you would miss me,” she whined as I exhaled with irritation. Pinching the bridge of my nose, I shook my head. “I told you that I don’t do the emotions thing, Jessica.” Her lips parted, and her eyes narrowed. “You've got a new girlfriend, haven't you?” I looked up and noticed the earrings dangling from her earlobes, my eyes widening in shock. "Where did you get those?" I grabbed her chin, forcing her to look at me. "You really do have a new girlfriend!" she blurted out after a moment's thought. Ignoring her comment, I pushed her away and quickly searched through my drawer. Sure enough, the earring was missing. I remembered the girl who left without a word that night; that earring was the only clue I had to find her, and now it was on the ears of my least favorite daughter, which infuriated me. "Take them off!" I commanded calmly. "I just bought these," Jessica said, covering her ears, her inexplicable possessiveness infuriating me. "Give them to me. I'm asking one last time." "You've never raised your voice at me like this before," she sobbed, removing the earrings and throwing them on the table. "I looked into it; these are worthless. The woman who wore these must have been just an ordinary woman." "Oh? Change your taste, have you?" “ You are mine, Scott.” Her response was firm as she crossed her arms over her chest. “I don’t understand why you are acting like this. Don’t I make you happy?” It was clear this conversation wasn’t going anywhere, and with my next appointment arriving in less than an hour, I had things I needed to get done. “Bella!” I yelled, watching as the door opened to reveal my very punctual assistant. “Yes, Mr. McFarland ?” “Can you please escort Jessica to her car?” I asked her, watching as a look of shock crossed Jessica’s face. “Of course.” Bella reached for Jessica’s arm but was quickly pushed back by the rage that began to build beneath her once enticing eyes. “Are you throwing me out?!” she shrieked. “You can’t do this to me!” “I do wish you all the best for the future. You're not my type. Goodbye” Cold. That was how I had to be. There are plenty of women who throw themselves at me, but that doesn't mean I have to like each one. I was always cast as the bad guy. I don't want to give these women any false hope, nor do I want to play with anyone's feelings carelessly. As for that one-night stand, it was just an exception. “You will regret doing this to me!” Jessica warned, causing the corner of my lips to lift. "Is that so? We'll see about that. The one thing I'm least afraid of in life is being threatened." Jessica stormed out angrily, and the office felt much quieter after she left. I looked at the earring I had recovered and once again thought of the girl from that night. I called my secretary in. "Any progress on the investigation I asked you about?" "Sorry, President, the hotel's surveillance was under maintenance that day, and we can only see a blurry image. The information we have so far is that the girl is between 18 and 27 years old, and about 165 cm tall." Girls aged between 18 and 27, around 165 cm tall—there are many like that in Phoenix. How will I ever find her? "Is that all the news?" "I've also checked the customer data for those who bought pearl earrings in the past three months. After comparing it with the information we have, I've narrowed it down to ten phone numbers, which may include the person you're looking for." "Okay, Got it." I felt a bit disappointed, yet hopeful. "Thank you, Ella, keep on it and make sure to inform me promptly if there are any developments about this girl." "Will do, President." Bella stepped back and left the office, while I stared at the ten phone numbers in my hand.  On a whim, I picked one and dialed it. "Hello~" My heart skipped a beat—the sweet voice on the other end was exactly like that of the girl from that night! "May I ask who is—" My words were cut off by a man's voice. "Honey, what are you waiting for? Let's really enjoy tonight..." Then, noise from the other end, like something had fallen. Their interaction sounded quite intimate; maybe they were a couple? Did that girl have a boyfriend now? I felt like I must be insane, calling a girl from a one-night stand that I never intended to meet again? And it seemed like she might have a boyfriend? Had she gotten back together with her ex? I felt utterly foolish. Trying to find one woman in a sea of faces, the moment I decided to hide my true identity, I never thought I'd want to meet her again. Yet now, here I was, wanting to find her. The more I thought about it, the more my thoughts tangled. I decided to toss the paper with the numbers into the drawer. I ordered myself to stop thinking about everything that happened that night. Let it be over. This really isn't my style. Just then, Needy sent me a message, urging me to come home. I stared at the photo she sent, of that girl, Rory. Our eyes met in the photo, and in a flash of insight, something struck me! “Sir, your four o’clock appointment is calling to cancel?” My secretary started from my office door, pulling me from my thoughts. “That’s fine. I actually have an emergency that has come up, and I need to go home. See if you can get them to reschedule for me.” “Of course, sir. Do you need anything else?” My eyes met hers briefly, but my lips spoke not a word. It was enough for her to understand I was being serious and close the door, giving me time to think through what I was about to do. “ Jake,” I said into the receiver of my phone as I called my driver, “bring the car around.” I was going to meet my girl. I knew who the girl I had a one-night stand with was!
