Lunch Block

ASPEN POV

The next few classes weren’t too bad although I still haven’t made any friends yet but I’m not going to let that bring me down there’s still hope. Oh and did I mention we missed Freshman orientation due to moving are crap in those few days.. Yup so we didn’t get the English assignment for the stupid book report everyone had to do for “summer reading” so guess what I’ll be doing the next two nights on top of any assignments we get for today. Yay me. Thankfully the other teachers take it easy on us as it’s our first day.

I quickly stop at my locker before walking to good ol’ Health class. Let’s hope they don’t start the d***k and kitty talks on the first day of school. Thankfully it’s my lunch block too because I am legit starving and I will need to get something more than just one muffin for breakfast. No wonder why Matty gets four.. I think to myself as I walk in the class and quickly pray it goes well.. I walk in to see Benny sitting in the back row.. Yeah probably won’t be calling him that. I just laugh to myself giving him a small smile as he stares me down smiling. Why do the dudes around here feel the need to gawk? I just want to tell him it’s rude and to pick up his jaw from the floor.. Ignoring it I walk over to one of the front tables far away from him and sit next to some girl who looks like she just walked off the runway even in our tacky uniforms. She looks up from her phone and I see her large designer hand bag sitting on the table. She’s gorgeous. She has big brown eyes, long dark hair and she has beautiful brown skin. Wow oh wow I wish my skin was that flawless. I’m going to need her beauty regimen asap.

“Hey girl I’m Kimberly Cole, I prefer Kimi though. You must be new to Woodland falls.” She looks up to me giving me a million dollar smile. She’s definitely the kind of person I picture going to schools like this. “Yeah I am. My family and I just recently moved here. I’m Aspen Gray. My brother Asher is also a freshman here. We are twins.” I tell her and she gasps leaning closer to me. “Omg stop the new hottie with green eyes is your brother? He’s in my Spanish class and let me just tell you he can definitely teach me a thing or two. He is so dreamy.”

She gives me a wink then she releases a little giggle and I suddenly burst out laughing too. Before we know it both of us are looking like a couple of hyenas trying to get it together. Wait a second.. Did I just make my first friend? And it’s a popular girl too? This is a very strange day indeed.. “Wow girl your bold.” I say to her and we both laugh again before the teacher comes in.

“Good afternoon class I am Mr. Young and welcome to Freshman Health.” After he introduces himself, he let’s us know there is four lunch periods and that we have third lunch. I look down to grab my phone and text my brother but see that he had already texted me saying he had first lunch.. Welp that sucks a.ss. Mr. Young continues with some basic lessons on health then just as he is about to go over the work we will be doing over the course of the year the third lunch bell goes off and we all get up heading to the cafeteria. Luckily I’m still chatting with Kimi on our way there and she asks me if I want to join her and her friends for lunch. I tell her okay sure. “I’m just going to grab some food at that salad bar over there I will meet you at the registers in a few minutes.” She points to the huge salad bar before walking away. Wow I could definitely get use to the food around here I think to myself moments before I’m startled by a hand touching my arm.. I lightly jump in line and look at Ben smirking at me again. Clearly amused. Yup and I’m going with Ben. The dude is relentless. “Don’t do that Ben you scared the s**t out of me I almost kicked you in the balls.” I say to him moving slightly away. “I’m sorry beautiful I really didn’t mean to scare you although I must admit it was cute. I just wanted to see if you have a place to sit for lunch or if you want to join me and my friends.” He surprisingly offers nicely and it’s like he actually meant it not sexually this time.. How sweet but I’m still keeping my guard up though it’s only day one and I don’t need to be head over heels in love. “I do. I’m going to sit with Kimi and her friends but thank you.. Um maybe some other time?” I say and give him a friendly smile at him but he nods looking a bit defeated.

I turn around and walk to the register after picking out a deli sandwich, chocolate milk and a cookie of course. Because why the f***k not. “Hey girl all ready?” I hear Kimi ask me and I say yeah. I follow her over to her friends table and yup they are pretty similar to her. All four of them. Gorgeous. I don’t see myself fitting in with this group anytime soon. “Girls I want you guys to meet Aspen Gray. Her and her twin brother Asher are new here. He’s the sexy one I sent in our group chat earlier!” She says to them and they all go crazy. Blabbing about Ash.. Great what did I get myself into.. A bunch of fan girls as always..

“It’s nice to meet you I am Violet Simmons. You can consider me as the mom of the group and when I say that I mean more like a Kris Jenner type” The girl with short pink hair says with a little wink laughing. “This redhead fire cracker next to me is Mia Holland. Next to her is Sophie Tanner the blonde of the group and I don’t just mean her hair.. Muah kisses! You know we love you babes and lastly our spicy brunette Daisy Ortega. Kimi is more of the sporty outgoing one in our group she’s the most competitive.” Violet says with a wink and all the girls wave and say hi with friendly smiles. “It’s really nice to meet you guys thanks for letting me join y’all for lunch.” I say back as I sit down. “Where’d you move from Aspen?” Sophie asks me. “We are from Montana” I tell the girls and they are all surprised. “Wow you guys moved far.. Any particular reason you guys chose SC?” Violet asks. “Our mom is an RN so she had a much better job opportunity open up and we have family here.” I say. “Who’s your family?” Violet asks and they all seem interested to know. “I mean we are complete strangers but Sev and Sasha Connors. They are my moms cousins kids. So our aunt’s kids.” I tell them. “Girl is your family made up of dream boats?!” Kimi says getting so excited and I laugh. “Omg guys don’t all look at the same time but Benny keeps looking over here.” Daisy says all giddy. “He’s definitely looking at me. I just got a new bra and I’m sure he wants to hook up again seeing how hot they are on me.” Sophie gushes fixing her cleavage while winking over at him. I look up from my phone and glance her way as she meets my eyes at the same time. “Oh girl.. Don’t tell me your a virgin?” She asks me with her eyes wide like it’s the hottest new gossip. Great this is why I keep to myself.. Actually f***k it I don’t care what people think or say about me anymore. “Yes I am. I want to save myself for who I think is worthy of it.” I say proudly and Daisy speaks up first “Good for you chica. Honestly I wish I did that instead of giving it to my lousy neighbor when I was in the seventh grade.” Damn that’s young I think to myself and give her a warm smile.

“I am still one..” Kimi says saddened and the other girls look over to her shocked. “Wait I thought you were gonna hook up with Brandon at your parents cabin over the summer?” Violet asked her and she sounded a little concern. “Ugh it didn’t go well so I chose to wait.” She said. “Awe we’re sorry babes.. Your person will come and as for me I’ve been sorta seeing someone the last few weeks.. He may or may not be my fathers assistant but is so so gentle.. I think I love him.. I’m falling too quickly for him.” Violet admits shyly putting her face in her palm. I look at the other girls faces because I know mine has what I think all over it.

“Wow! You got yourself a man.. That must be exciting! I bet he’s huge!” Sophie gushes again. Of course she’s the groups slut.. They all have one. “No no no.. Yes he’s a man but he’s actually seventeen and will be eighteen in a few months so yeah I am screwed then..” Violet says back. “I hate to break it to you babes but that’s the virginity loss talking. Trust me. I would break it off now while you can.” Daisy says softly to Violet and she shrugs sadly.. Okay can lunch be over now this was so awkward! I say to myself.

“Look he’s getting up and is coming our way.. Watch and learn ladies.”

Sophie says fixing her boobs again as the rest of us turn to see Ben walking towards our table. “Hey.” He says while nodding to the girls before turning to face me.. He sits down in the empty spot next to me. “Aspen, I was wondering if you wanna walk back to class with me?” He asks me and lightly smiles. I gotta hand it to him.. He is a really persistent guy. Although that makes me wonder how he will be all school year.. Eventually I could avoid him completely but he does seem nice just comes off really really strong or maybe it feels that way because I didn’t have many connections back home. “Ah yeah sure.” I say to him and he smiles before standing up telling me he has to go grab his stuff from his table. The moment he walks away Sophie opens her big mouth.. “Oh I didn’t know you guys knew each other..” And that wasn’t a question but more of an annoyance. Awesome. First day and already have an enemy.. This will be the first and last time sitting with these girls. “We’ve got a few classes together and he’s a new friend of my brother.” I finish saying just as the lunch bell rings again and I stand. Welp time to go back to class.
