Chapter 4

Sylas stared straight at me. "Apologize to Violet!" I let the tears run freely down my cheeks. "No way! Never!" Violet held her face and wept as if her heart were breaking. "Sylas, I might as well just die. Then at least she won't always find fault with everything I do." The next second, she made a show of trying to bite her tongue. Sylas immediately pulled her into his arms, holding her tight and murmuring soft, comforting words. My whole body shook as I looked at him. "Sylas, I don't think it is your adopted sister who is blind... I think it is you! I am going to divorce you, no matter what!" I saw a flicker of something that looked like regret cross his face as he looked at me, but his expression quickly hardened again. "Not only do you refuse to say you are sorry, but you also speak such awful nonsense! You need to go to the family chamber and reflect seriously on your behavior!" The Remington family chamber was located underground, cold and damp all year round. Violet reached out as if trying to stop him, and I saw a worried expression appear on her face. "It is too cold down there, Sylas," she said softly. "She has only just recovered, and it is autumn now. The doctor said she needs to stay warm." She paused for a moment before adding gently, "Why not let her go to the sauna instead? It could actually be good for her health." She tugged lightly at his sleeve and looked up at him pleadingly. "Just let her stay there for a little while, okay?" Sylas looked at me and let out a cold snort. "You hit her, and yet she is the one thinking about your well-being. Do you even know how to act like a proper wife and sister-in-law?!" My heart ached so much I could no longer feel anything but numbness. I let the housekeeper guide my wheelchair away and push me into the sauna. As soon as the heavy door clicked shut, the temperature began to rise sharply. I soon noticed that the air vents had been completely blocked from the outside. I turned my wheelchair toward the door and tried to turn the handle, but it had been locked tight from the outside. Panic rose fast inside me. I pulled out my phone and called Sylas. "Please, let me out! I will die if I stay here!" "Stop making a scene. It is just a sauna, you are not going to die," his voice came through, cold and indifferent. "Stay inside and really think about whether you were in the wrong or not." He could hear me sobbing in pain on the other end, and for a moment, his tone sounded slightly softer. "Just stay there for a few hours. Then I'll have them unlock the door, and I will take you abroad for a trip and to see specialists. Just behave yourself and let Violet get over her anger." The heat had already become suffocating. Waves of hot air burned against every inch of my skin. Through the narrow gap under the door, I saw Violet standing outside. She leaned down close, and I could clearly read the words she formed with her lips. "Actually, I can see perfectly well! Hahaha." Then she mouthed again, "You stupid woman, you can scream until your throat tears and no one will come. Just wait there and die." In that instant, the temperature shot up to 73 degrees Celsius. I writhed in agony and slid off my wheelchair onto the floor. My skin burned so hot it almost felt like it was sizzling. I lifted my head just in time to see Sylas walking away, hand in hand with Violet. I closed my eyes, completely overcome by despair. Later that same evening, Sylas went to the service quarters. Seeing the bed empty, he frowned and turned to one of the staff. "Where is my wife?" The servant replied nervously, "Sir... Isn't she still locked inside the sauna?" Sylas froze where he stood, his eyes widening in shock. "What? I told you all to let her out this afternoon!" "But sir, the lock on that door broke two days ago. It cannot be opened from either side. And besides... the temperature control system had been broken for some time too." A heavy, dreadful feeling of unease settled over Sylas. He knew very well that the maximum temperature in that room could reach up to 90 degrees Celsius. Just then, the family doctor hurried into the room, looking very serious. "Mr. Remington, here are the latest results from Violet's eye examination." He paused and hesitated for a moment before holding out a folder in his hand. "Also... this courier delivery arrived at the door. It appears to be a divorce agreement."
