The cop repeats Jake’s name and address. ‘That’s where my mum lives.’ ‘That’s the address your car is registered at.’ ‘I’ve been out west. Working. Moving about.’ The Detective Inspector frowns, his eyebrows almost meeting in a wolf-like mono-brow. ‘What about last Sunday, Mr Reid? Were you out west?’ ‘I went to visit my daughter.’ ‘Ah ha.’ He lifts his pen above the paper. ‘Tell us about last Sunday. You spent the day with your daughter?’ The detective taps the end of his pen on the table and leans back. ‘Yes, Alannah-Lily.’ ‘How old is she?’ ‘Five.’ Jake cracks his knuckles, nervous. ‘Someone can verify this?’ The cop’s square jaw juts into the space between them. ‘My wife,’ Jake squeezes out. ‘Your wife?’ ‘My ex-wife.’ He shifts in his seat. ‘I thought this was about the li
