Teela

Teela's POV I stand by the grave of my brother. My mother and father are crying. They say he was too young to die. He had it coming. No one can be as arrogant as he was and not expect some to come after them. What they don't know is I am the one who ordered the hit, not only that I am the one who pulled the trigger. Let me back up and tell you who I am and how it happened. *Flashback* My name is Teela Lugosi. I am the only daughter of a high-ranking Mafia family. My father is the most ruthless of all families. It was he who brought the peace we now have in our city. The fighting that used to go on now is only chatter that father allows so the other Mafia lords can have fun. My brother Rami was handed the throne just because he had a d**k. I was handed a marriage arrangement. Watching my brother piss away all of our father's hard work made me sick. But I was the younger sister. My place was in the arranged marriage, whether I wanted it or not. I fought with my parents every night. I wouldn't go through with it no matter what. The day the final straw came was the day my brother's best friend cornered me in the house. I knew what he wanted, and I wasn't going to give it to him. I was well-trained in defense. When he advanced, I made my move. Knocking him off his feet, I pinned him to the floor, the small knife I carried in my bra at his throat. "If you ever touch me again, I will slit your throat and pull your vocal cords out through the hole I made," I said, venom dripping with every word. I punctured his neck and watched as blood spilled from the wound. "You might want to get that looked at, before you bleed out." I walked from the room wiping my knife on my pants, then replacing it where it belonged. That was the first time I drew blood from someone. I liked it, the power it gave me and how it made me feel. His life was in my hands and all I had to do was to not be afraid to take it. Later that day, I heard my brother talking to him. "That looks bad. She really pulled a knife on you?" he said. "Your sister is crazy. You have to get your parents to call off that marriage. She'll end up killing Miguel." "They only care about getting their hands on the territory his family runs." "He's our friend, do you really want to see him killed?" "Not my call. Dad handed the family to me at the start of the year. I have to keep things going how father wants them. He always gets what he wants." They left, and I made up my mind that the wedding would not happen. Even if I did have to kill the groom. It's not that I didn't like the guy. As a matter of fact, Rami had walked in on us countless times having s*x. I just didn't want to be told who I had to marry. I headed back to my room and started working up a plan. By nightfall, I knew what I had to do. Rami had spent too much time chasing ass in the last few months. The numbers for our family were slipping. None of my father's business partners wanted to deal with him. All I had to do was take over. Tomorrow he will be home. It was family night. I knew the combination for the safe, and I was better at holding and using a gun. Rami was really useless. I was all smiles at dinner, playing cissy face with mom and dad. Even telling Rami I was proud of where he was taking the family's holdings. If you knew me you would know it was all an act. Good thing for me my parents didn't know me. Rami, he was a different story. When I suggested that we take a walk and talk about his role as a groomsman, he saw right through it. Or at least he thought he did. We headed to the gardens. At the back wall he pinned me to it. "What are you playing at, you little snake?" he spat at me. "I don't know what you are talking about. I thought this was what the family wanted. Me, happy to be the new money for us." "You hate the idea and you know it. I'll ask you again. What are you planning?" I slid my gloves on and looked at him, "If only your pea brain could understand." Before he could react, I pulled out the gun I had been concealing. The gun with a silencer makes a beautiful sound. His brain blows out the back of his head, splattering on his favorite tree. At least he gets to stay with it for all eternity. I toss the gun and the gloves into the hole I dug earlier and cover it. There is no way anyone will find it. Dropping to my knees, I pulled Rami into my lap and started screaming. My dad's men come running. "What happened Miss?" one shouts. "We had a fight and separated to cool off. When I came to find him, he was like this," I sobbed out. His blood covering my dress. Those years of drama and acting were paying off. They ran off to see if they could find anyone. Idiots all of them. I held Rami until the ambulance came. Mom and dad had arrived a few minutes before. Together, mom and I ugly cried. I had never seen my father cry. All that changed that night. *End Flashback* The money my parents had spent on his funeral was unrealistic. I stood in the receiving line and accepted condolences. Knowing fully well that I was the reason that we stood there. I let a small smile spread across my lips as they lowered him into the ground. Phase one of my plan was complete. Now phase two. A week after the funeral, I went to my father's office. "Can I show you a plan for the family?" "Not now, Teela, we have to figure out what we are going to do. Your wedding also needs to be pushed forward. You need someone to take care of you now that your brother is gone. I won't be around forever." "Father, if you would just look, I could solve the problem." Reluctantly, he takes the file I handed him and looks through it. I watch, he is calculating what it would cost and how it could be implemented. When he finally looked up, his eyes held tears. The second time I ever saw him cry. "When did you do this?" "I have been working on it since you handed the family to Rami. I tried showing him, and he didn't want to hear anything." "Thank you, I will implement all of this. We can focus on your wedding now." I took the folder from him and stared at him. "That is the thing, father. I want the throne. I just showed you I can run the family. Let me do that." "But what about your marriage? Everything is already arranged." "That's my price. I just solved all the problems. I earned it." I watched as my father looked at the folder, then back at me. Calculating if he could get it back from me. Finally, he drops his head. "I concede, the family is yours." I stand and walk out of the office. Looking over my shoulder, "Thank you father. You made the right choice." I walked out of the office and smiled in triumph. Now for phase three.
