Claudette's POV
We stop arguing when the door swings open by an angry Alpha. He looks from me to the stranger. His eyes are pitch black with hate. I guess he heard me and did not like the thought of someone being too close to his mate. I triumphantly smile as he proves to me that we are mates, and he doesn’t even know it.
That thought is short-lived. I feel like a bucket of cold water is thrown on me when I see he is staring at me with hate in his eyes. Why is he not looking at the strange man who was standing so close? Claudette, my meetings are taking longer than expected. Julia is waiting at the bottom of the steps for you.
Without so much as an, I’m sorry, a kiss, no cutesy sweet talk, nothing. He just shoos me away. He doesn’t even ask if I need anything. I cross my arms, huff K and turn back the way I came. My annoyed exit didn’t go as I planned. I accidentally shoulder checked the stranger that caught me trying to eavesdropping. By shoulder check, I mean I ran my shoulder into his hulking arm that didn’t move. He was now towering over me as he stood up right instead of crouching.
He shifts slightly to the side a little to let me pass him. I’m surprised he did not tell on me for eavesdropping. The whole time he just stood there staring at me with one eyebrow raised. It was like he was studying me or something.
Alpha Ace’s POV
The girl standing at the bottom of the stairs greets me with a bow and a smile. She shyly says, “Good Afternoon, Alpha Ace.” I nod in acknowledgment and keep heading to Blake's office. When I turn the corner, I see a girl with long dark hair slowly creeping forward toward the ajar office door. I can’t stand someone who can’t mind their own business. I hold back a growl that is threatening to escape as I watch her more closely.
Who in their right mind would sneak around like the way she is? She is hunched over like trying to make herself smaller, but yet she is on her tiptoes, making herself taller.
Why would someone so blatantly eavesdrop? Whatever she is trying to hear must be good. My wolf and I are no longer irritated by her snooping. I’m actually amused, which rarely happens. I creep up close to her. She moved so quickly when she realized I was there, she almost headbutted me and bumped into the wall all at the same time.
I playfully ask her, “What are we listen to?” She doesn’t acknowledge my question and instead shoots one back at me. I guess she is no longer worried about someone knowing that she is outside the door. This time she is talking very loudly as she waves her hand between the two of us. Why are you so close to me? I do not have an answer for her as I usually would not be doing something like this.
The door comes flying open, and out steps Blake. He doesn’t look too happy. In a hateful tone, I hear him say, “Claudette, my meetings are taking longer than expected. Julia is waiting at the bottom of the steps for you.”
Well, isn’t this interesting? She is the girl from last night! I can’t seem to take my eyes off her while wondering what the hell is she doing here? Why is she spying on Blake?
Without warning, she tries to shoulder check me as she storms away. My wolf is snickering in my head at her feisty behavior. I adjust slightly to the side, giving her enough room to pass by. Since when have you liked someone who displays such combative behavior? I ask my wolf. He snipes back at me, “you mean us.”
I slyly grin at Blake when I hear him growl softly under his breath “Ace, what are you doing here?” I’m here for my fee brother, or did you forget? I can tell by his body language that he doesn’t want to pay me, but I do not work for free. I was excepting to see Mark in his office. Instead, I see a pretty blonde woman in his office.
Claudette’s POV
Ughh…. Who the f**k do they think they are dismissing me like that? I may be a female, but I’m still an alpha. They need to start remembering that. I snarl to myself as I’m storming down the stairs.
Julie is it? Take me to the training grounds or gym, whatever your pack here calls it. She looks so scared as her voice stutters, I. I. I’m. I’m sorry I can’t take you there.
Without thinking, I let my anger get the best of me as I yell at her WHY THE F*** NOT? She is looking down, twirling her fingers around each other as she answers me in almost a whisper, “Alpha’s orders.” I can barely hear her. I leaned forward, hoping to catch what she said, but this is causing me to become more annoyed and agitated.
Look, Julie, I just need to blow off some steam before I lose it. Is there something like training we can do that doesn’t involve going to the gym? She looks up at me like she just got an idea. “We can go for a run on the trails if you are up for it.”
Yes! I’ll take it. Lead the way. Thankfully I already had on a pair of my yoga shorts, tank top, and shoes. So I did not have to change because I do not know what they did with my bag that I brought with me. “Okay, we can go down the easy beginner path or the harder, more experienced path. Which one do you want to take, Claudette?” She asks.
The more challenging, the better!!! I yell back at her as I take off down the path she said was harder.
