Amelia's POV
I could feel the intensity of their emotions on the other side of the door. My wolf pricked at my thought, urging me to go to our mate.
“You only appear when emotions are swirling in the air right? Nice meeting you again, my dear wolf.” I said, dryly.
“It's important, Amelia. Go to him, now.” She insisted.
“I don't care,” I retorted.
But a crash was all it took for my legs to act and I found myself in front of Gerald.
His body was stiff but sounds of bones breaking, heartwrenching screams and so many disturbing sounds echoed in the room, all coming from Gerald. Strangely, his mouth was closed.
“What do I do, wolf? Answer me.” I yelled. But Silence was all I got in response.
“Gerald!!” I decided to do what I could, I tapped his cheeks, hoping to get a response. His eyes were crimson red, moist, and deadly.
“What’s going on? Gerald, are you there? Hey,” I slapped him this time but that only worsened the situation. b****y tears dropped from his eyes and soon they flowed freely.
Fear consumed me. He wasn't responding and his body temperature increased.
“Who are you?” a faraway voice interrupted but I gnored it. I aimed to get him back. I didn't know how it happened, but I focused on the energy that surged through my veins. A white light shone through my palms and that did it.
It took a second for his eyes to return to hazel and he collapsed on the floor.
“What are you?” it was a male voice this time. I wiped my tears away and turned to face the man. He stood tall, ready to take any person that harmed his loved ones. His dark eyes shone with so much hatred.
“How did you get in here? What did you do to the Alpha?” He took calculated steps towards me. When I opened my mouth to answer his questions, Lylah pushed me away from Gerald and laid Gerald's head on her lap.
‘How do I explain this?’ I thought, expecting my wolf to help me out but she was gone.
“Gerald and I were having a conversation when she attacked us. Please help, he isn't responding.” Tears streamed down her face and she sounded so honest that I almost believed her.
“It’s not true, I…” I was cut off by the angry growl of the redheaded guard that almost knocked me out earlier that day. It was almost 4:30 am and I realised that I hadn't eaten for days now. My stomach growled in response to that and I wished the ground would open up.
If they heard it, they didn't show it and I was thankful for that.
“You already looked suspicious but with this, it’s confirmed that you can't be trusted, Alpha's mate or not.” The redhead sneered.
“I will take her until the Alpha decides her fate.” The dark eyed man said and the redhead slightly bowed.
“Mate? She's Gerald’s mate?” Lylah’s voice broke at the end.
“Yes, I am,” I answered and turned to the redhead. “The reason why I would never harm him.” My tone pleading.
I couldn't risk anything. If I get into trouble, they might throw me out and Edward must have gotten closer to my location by now.
“It’s not my place to decide, the Beta will take care of it. But I promise you, if I find out you are guilty of all charges, you will regret stepping foot into this pack.” I swallowed.
He was trying to keep his tone under control because of the Beta but he slipped.
“Larry, Call Sloane.” The Beta said, his voice even, and the redhead gave him a curt nod in response.
The Beta led me out of the house, where two other guards were patiently waiting with a rope. My hands were bound and my face was covered.
“Eric,” Lylah called out. Must be the Beta, I thought.
“Take her to the Alpha's quarters in the packhouse.” He ordered and then added.
“Through the passage.”
“Yes sir,” The guards both answered and we left.
“It’s the curse.” I heard Lylah say.
“Curse?” I thought.
“What?” One of the guards asked.
I realized that I had voiced my thoughts.
“It’s nothing,” I mumbled and kept my mouth tightly shut until we arrived at the Alpha's quarters.
His scents dominated every corner of the room. They removed the bind on my face and left without a word.
I slide down the bed frame, relaxing my head on the bed. I was glad for the interior of the room. Most important the black paint. It reflects my life at that moment.
I thought of my mother and a certain memory flashed in my mind.
“You’ll always be my daughter, no matter what. Just do what you think is right.” She said and placed a kiss on my forehead.
“Why do we have to live this way? It’s infuriating to think that I have to spend the rest of my life humoring that tyrant. His touch makes my skin crawl, Mother.” I pulled at my hair.
“But if this is my fate, I will protect you from him no matter what.” I had promised with so much determination but she eventually died because of me.
Then the memory faded away.
“I won't rest until I lay his head at your grave,” I muttered.
I remembered that I hadn't buried her hand. I abruptly stood up, pacing, thinking of where I had left it but my memory was blank.
The door swung open and Lylah stepped in. She stared me down with disgust.
“How can you be the Alpha's mate? It's impossible. You aren't fit to be a Luna. Your hands are tainted with blood,” She taunted.
“What do you know?” I faced her, trying to keep my cool.
“You'll be surprised, Amelia.”
She smiled and strolled into the room.
“Is it the fact that your mother died because of you or the fact that you are a lost cause?” She said and my hands dropped to my side in shock.
“H-how did you..?” I stuttered, staring at her dumbfounded. She walked further in and stopped right in front of me. As the clock continued to tick, my heart slowed to an unusual pace. My head was throbbing but I wanted to hear more, despite the hole that each word was creating in my heart.
“What do you think Gerald would do when he finds out?” she began to pace back and forth.
My lips quivered but I bit hard on it. I won't allow her to see my weakness.
“All you have to do is accept the charges and you'll get the least punishment. I will plead with Gerald on your behalf if you admit it.” She kept talking but all I could think of was Edward. I needed a solid plan to avenge my mother.
“Or you can be prepared to meet your worst nightmare, Edward,” She smiled knowingly. My face paled and I lost control.
