CHAPTER ELEVEN After Lieutenant High dropped him off at Oakland Police Headquarters, Lindsey had driven to the Kleiner Mansion and asked Jayjay if he could talk with her after closing. She’d agreed, but first Lindsey asked if he could use the phone. He needed to check up on Mother. And he had another call to make. When Mother answered the phone she’d been distraught. She’d been watching a historical show on TV and she was terrified at the outbreak of war. “What war, Mother?” Lindsey tried to slow her down. “In Poland!
