CHAPTER FIFTEEN The Pacific storm arrived in full force before Lindsey had his breakfast. Mother sat opposite him, watching the rain fall. She sipped her orange juice and put down the glass. “That’s a relief,” she said. “What is?” “The rain.” “Make driving terrible,” Lindsey said. “Be a lousy commute.” Mother smiled. “Don’t be silly. You only have to drive downtown. If you weren’t so lazy, you could walk to work. Besides, if the drought keeps up we’ll have a lot worse problem than a few traffic jams. Be thankful for a little rain!” She got up and carried the coffee pot back to the table. “Want another cup, Hobart?” He nodded and she poured for him. She was amazing.
