|19| A Night to Remember One word to describe my holidays: unexpected. From the movie watching at Smith’s movie theater, to the surprising first dinner with my family, to Gavin’s proposal—everything’s like a dream. How can be a day holds so much happiness like that? It’s almost unbelievable like a dream.  On the Christmas day, Gavin and I went out for a date. We went skiing, cafe hopping, and pretty much everything that we can think of. When the night came, we went to a hotel where he had a restaurant reservation and we decided to book rooms for us. This is vacation and I might as well enjoy this ‘til it lasts.  And we did enjoy the night. The next night, Maria decided to have a slumber party at her house. She’s ecstatic and she can’t stop fussing over me and I can’t help but to laugh at her. Taehyung was teasing her nonstop but at the end of the night, he’s watching her like she’s the most precious thing with that gentle look on his eyes. Gavin was just there, raining on everyone’s parade including mine. By midmorning, we ended up dancing like crazy when the booze hit our system. Ah, they can’t hold liquor that well. Maria was drunk calling and I can’t laugh any harder when Taehyung answered his phone. I got a chance to take a video of them and I can use it to blackmail them in the near future. Gavin passed out earlier than I expected, tho.  He’s that adorable. “It’s nice to see you again, Maddy” I said as soon as I saw Maddy entering my condo with his assistants following him and kissed his cheek. We were once again in my condo that they turned into a dressing room.  Alleyna had my dress for tonight delivered this morning and I was stuck in awe for few minutes when I saw it. Damn. It looks beautiful! She’s really a talented one when it comes to designing clothes!  “You look skinnier than before,” Maddy commented before raking his eyes on my body. I suppressed a groan from my lips because what he said was true. “I’m on a diet,” I said and winked. “Nonetheless, you look so good today! More radiant than before!” He commented and I can only laugh. Thanks God Maria and I had facial.  Maria’s done with her makeup and now she’s doing her hair while Maddy is now preparing my face for makeup. Like the usual, Maria and I glammed just the way we wanted it. We had facial sessions yesterday and spa this morning with manis and pedis on the side. Maddy’s professional hands did wonders on our faces and I can say that he’s the best in this thing.  “I want it sexy and classy, Maddy,” I said while looking straight into the vanity where I can see my reflections.  “Pinning to be the best dressed?” Maddy teased as he works on my face. “Not really,” I replied, laughing. Thirty minutes later, Maddy tapped my shoulder and told me to open up my eyes and the visuals in front of me surprised me. He did magics on me once again.  “Now for your hair…tell me what your gown’s cut is.” He said and I told him the info that he wanted. With a smirk on his face, he instructed the hairdresser to do my hair in a low, french bun with lose hairs to frame my face. It was done in a few minutes and I can’t help but to adore what they did to me. I gave them countless thank yous for several minutes now because they deserve it. “Dress up, Finn! We’ll do pre-party photo shoot!” Maria yelled from the mini studio they’ve set up at the corner. Looking at her ensemble, my lips smirked. Taehyung will have to guard her up all night long. Looking at her stunning red tube satin ballgown with long trail with her long blonde hair in curled into waves, she sure looks so hot.  Changing in my room, I let out an inaudible gasp as I stared back at my reflection. Alleyna Esquivere is really a great designer, I swear.  Strapping my silver Louboutins and with my white Chanel purse, I strutted my way out of my room. “Oh my God!” Maria exclaimed as soon as she saw me. Like a model, I walked as if I’m on the runway. “You looked so gorgeous!” She fussed and everyone in the room agreed.  Wearing a champagne colored deep cut gown with an extra looking high slit on my right thigh, my fur coat draped on my shoulders with my diamond choker jewelry with a long strip that goes down with the cut of my gown and my diamond piercings given by Maria, and my diamond ring given by Gavin, I’m looking better than ever. “Look at that highlight!” Maria gushed and I winked at her. “Girl, you look so expensive tonight!” “What can I say? I’m Seraphine Mallory Gray,” I said smugly and we all laughed after that.  “Wait, is that a bruise?” Maria asked and pointed a portion of my back. With my forehead creased, I turned around to take a look and there it was, a bruise size of a palm. Imagine the horror in my face as soon as I see it. I don’t know if it’s a good thing that I can mask my emotions well so I did lie for a bit. “Ah, must be from yesterday. I bumped into my walk in closet’s shelf.” I lied. I looked at Maddy with a small smile on my face. “Can you do something to cover it?” I asked.  “Well, concealing will do the work,” he replied and grabbed the necessary things he needed to start hiding the bruise on my back.  After that, I proceeded to the mini photo shoot and Maria was the one who’s directing me. I’m kinda used to it by now since Maria likes having photo shoots even in a sudden spur of a moment.  “Wow,” smiling, I turned around to my best friend s***h best boyfriend in town. He looked so sleek in his three piece black straight cut tuxedo and bow tie designed by Alleyna.  “Serving looks tonight, aren’t you?” I teased. Gavin chuckled when I winked at him before going into my business again.  After several shots, Gavin and I did some couple snaps and after that, it’s Maria and Taehyung’s turn. It was chaotic, as always. They looked cute together! Taehyung wore a gray tuxedo with black silk inner shirt that made him downright sexy like a kpop idol. Nonetheless, Gavin still won by one hundred showers. The group shots that we did was fun. We could pass as some hollywood actors in their own movie premiere night. That’s how extra we are tonight but knowing the cream of New York society, they will always go for something extravagant. Carl, the chauffeur, picked us up with the limousine that he’s been using for our service. He’s dressed in his usual black and white tuxedo but this time he had his hair styled. That’s a minimal change but it did created a big impact.  “Looking good, Carl!” Maria exclaimed as soon as she slid into the car with Taehyung helping her because of her gown.  “Thank you, Ms. Smith,” Carl replied with a small smile on his face. Who knew smiling looks good on CC?  The ride to the hotel was fast as it’s only around NYC. Imagine my surprise when I learned that the venue would be in Gray Hotel, the first and main hotel of Gray Internationals. I’ve been there last year when Mom forcefully tagged me along with her to visit and it really screamed elegance and extravagance. I wonder how it will look like knowing my mother is so extra with these kind of social events. When we reached the venue, Gavin and Taehyung stepped out first to assist Maria and I. There are lots of media doing their coverage and photographers snapping pictures of the attendees. Maria naturally striked a pose with Taehyung on her side. They looked like a celebrity couple, I swear. With a soft smile on my face, Gavin and I posed for some media men who asked to snap pictures of us. “What a pleasant surprise! Mr. Wraith Smith brought a stunning lady as his date tonight, everyone! May we know what’s your name, mi lady?” The emcee asked. “I’m Seraphine Mallory Gray from Gray Internationals.” I answered gracefully and the flashes of the camera shutters became more brighter that it was before after mentioning my name. “Wow! The reclusive heiress of Gray Internationals is here before me. It’s such an honor to meet you,” the emcee said. “Likewise,” I smiled. “No wonder Mr. Wraith’s looking smug tonight. He’s got himself a beautiful lady,” he teased and Gavin laughed at him.  “What can I say? My girl is beautiful inside and out,” Gavin said with a gorgeous smile on his face. Gavin and I answered few more questions an some of those are about the Gray Internationals and I can’t say anything but “Grays are always on top” because that’s what my parents would say of they were on my stead instead.  A huge ballroom with elegant designs welcomed me with lots of people socializing with each other. They were all clad in their designer gowns and tuxedos and I can say that the cream of new york never disappoints.  Talking in hush tones, confident in their best gowns and suits—these are elites in front of me. “Welcome to your first year-end gala!” Maria half-yelled at me and cling on my arm as we settled down in a corner. I can see some familiar faces from MAE who were giving me soft nod as our eyes meet.  “I really don’t know what’s good with this event,” I said, sighing as I received the wine fluke that the waiter offered me.  “Apparently, each person who will attend needs to register and pay since this is also a charity ball,” Taehyung said and my eyes widened and I look at Gavin who smiled at me cheekily. “How much?” I asked. “Well, a hundred thousand dollars,” Maria said. “It’s for charity so yeah,” she shrugged.  “You registered me?” I asked Gavin.  “I wanted to but you’re already registered before I could,” he said. “Looks like your parents registered you.” They…really wanted me to come with them? Or they want me to come with them to be a trophy by their side? Nonetheless, I don’t seem to care anymore. I’m here with my friends. That’s surprisingly enough.  “I’m hungry,” Taehyung whined and I can’t help but to nod my head in agreement. I can’t remember what time was the last time I ate. Was it breakfast or dinner last night?  “Let’s eat a hundred thousand dollars worth of food,” I joked and they all laughed.  Maria raised her wine fluke with a dazzling smile plastered on her face. “Cheers to more years of friendship!” With a grin, we raised our glasses all together and clinked it.  To more years and moments with you, my friends. Lost in a crowd of elites, we had fun under the shimmering chandeliers, with fancy walls enclosing our warm hearts  and raging souls. Now I can say that I am alive. But I guess you can’t have all the good things in a lifetime. # end of chapter nineteen A/N: Last chapter is up next! I want to thank all the people who are supporting The Last String especially to my best friend to nags me all the time to write, write, and write. This was started out of a spontaneous idea and (maybe) unexpressed sentiments of mine.  Again, thank you!
