36Sydney 1977 Peter Mathers was extremely pleased to have been invited to join the Occupational Health Committee (OHC) of the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). He had also been asked to be a member of the ad hoc committee on asbestos. He thought he was finally being recognised as a leader in the field of asbestos disease, and a pioneer in occupational health in Australia. He enjoyed going to the regular meetings of the OHC. He could discuss important issues with intelligent medical men rather than having to deal with the intellectual pygmies at the King Industries factory.
