26Sydney 1972 “Steady that sheet, will you, Nick. I’ve got to take off four inches along the side.” “Sure, Jimmy. Got it.” James went along the length of the Fibrosheet with the fibroshears. The special tool recommended by the manufacturer pushed out a half inch wedge, which then fell to the ground under the sheet resting on the two carpenter’s horses. It was a slow process, but given the wide variety of Fibrosheet sizes available, usually little cutting was needed in erecting one of James Henderson’s simple fibro cottages. Even so, James was looking forward to receiving his new, electric saw that week. His electrician, Colin Frawley, had already connected the site up to the power supply. Anytime now, James had been assured by the salesman at the hardware store where he held an account.
