41Kiama 1994 It did not take long for Jenny and James to settle into a routine once they had unpacked all the boxes and moved the furniture into position. They found there was nothing more invigorating than the morning walk along the yellow sand of the beach. James often dunked himself under the enveloping, steel-blue swells, emerging with a loud gasp, the bracing water kick-starting his day. He loved watching Jenny’s reaction as he emerged ruddy and cold from the ocean – a beautiful mixture of scorn and pleasure. After breakfast, James worked in the garden, while Jenny spent a few hours helping out in a local craft shop. On occasions, James would spend the morning doing some odd jobs in town. He had a short kip in the afternoon, after which they went fishing, walking in the nearby parks
